Asuncion Saturday Sunset

shari - 8-22-2010 at 07:52 AM

Last night the Bajagypsies were here to BBQ ribs from a freshly "cut up" cow from a local ranch...local beef is pretty chewy but alive with flavour of the desert.

The sunset went OFF as the kids were playing dodge the waves at the Blowhole in our front yard. Trouble is, I just couldnt decide which photo to post...so here are my top 5...if you had to choose one...which one do you prefer???

Here are the happy saskatchewan Gypsies at grandpa gypsies birthday dinner at the Tidepool...they are working hard on their place, boogieboarding, fishing and partying!!!

I like #4 with the wave coming over the rocks. But all are really nice. The family portrait is Great! Looks like the weather warmed up! Or is that because they're Eskimos?;)

Ken Bondy - 8-22-2010 at 08:58 AM

I'm goin' with #4 sis. Magnificent!

David K - 8-22-2010 at 09:02 AM

All good... I like the texture of the sky shown in #3 and the reflection in the water.

Mexitron - 8-22-2010 at 09:08 AM

Those are beautiful shari!

Bob H - 8-22-2010 at 09:18 AM

#4.

Or maybe #5.

Er, #1.

Wait! #3

For sure #2.

BajaBlanca - 8-22-2010 at 09:53 AM

I like #4 with the wave too, but it was hard to choose which means they are ALL great !!

Meany - 8-22-2010 at 10:27 AM

Great Shot's.. I like #5; Got to Love the color.

jeremias - 8-22-2010 at 10:56 AM

now those are some good sunsets.

Eli - 8-22-2010 at 11:10 AM

They are all great shots Shari. I think #1 for the reflection of lights in the tide pool, #4 for the intensity of the wave, #2 for the colors in the pool, #3 for the colors of the sky, the sea and the pool, and #5 because it brings me home to Baja. O.k., so obviously I couldn't decide either.

shari - 8-22-2010 at 11:46 AM

thanks everybody...I like each of them for different reasons and just cannot choose one...I like each for for different reasons..dang...sure was a gorgeous sunset and before it took off I mentioned that it didnt look like there was gonna be a sunset for the clouds...HA!

jbcoug - 8-22-2010 at 01:00 PM

I could look at them all for hours!

Top in my opinion is #4, love the water.

Thanks Shari

Not so shabby, shari..not so shabby..

p.s. We've been watching some of those old Canadian sunsets of yours for a couple weeks now. Only thing is..the damn sun doesn't set until midnight..and is up again by four a.m.

Number 1 for me. The framing of the landforms is great.

Number 4? You sure were shooting fast. The water looks frozen. I like that one as well.

shari - 8-22-2010 at 04:26 PM

ah Dennis, I concur....but #1 bugs me as I wish the whole blowhole "pool" was in the shot...I'm gonna check the original...but I'm leaning towards the frozen water and ice blue colour of it in #4!!

Skipjack Joe - 8-22-2010 at 07:12 PM

#3 with the bottom 1/3 removed.

Lauriboats - 8-23-2010 at 07:18 AM

I love # 4 postcard perfect.

bajasammy - 8-23-2010 at 07:22 AM

These are all fantastic, but #4 is my fav!

Cochi - 8-23-2010 at 08:17 AM

Hi Shari, we will take a small scoop of 1, lots of 4, and a sprinkle of 5.

bajafam - 8-23-2010 at 08:46 AM

*sigh* missing those sunsets and all the fun :(

toneart - 8-23-2010 at 09:07 AM

Shari,

They are all beautiful!

The topic of interest and intent is the sunset. So, with that in mind I favor #3. That photo and #5 were taken within seconds of one another, and a little later than the others, giving the sunsets more intensity. They both have the same cloud and water formations. I like the way the sunset reflects on the water a little better in #3.

If the focus weren't on the sunset, I would chose #4. The frozen water looks delicious! Next would be #1 for composition.

But then, I am a complex person....:) Every utterance requires a qualification. I take my assignments seriously.:smug::rolleyes:

shari - 8-23-2010 at 10:04 AM

ahhh, so glad you take your assignment seriously tony...my intent was to snap a photo of a gorgeous sunset....but it was so spectacular, I ventured further into the front yard to see if it were reflecting into the blowhole pool...but then the kids playing at the edge made a new "subject" for a picture...I really like people in photos too...so now my original intention of snapping a sunset pic got more complex...now I had to take into consideration the humans, reflections, wave patterns...loved how the waves came over the rocks...yadda yadda...

result was lots of neat photos but too much time spent trying to decide which one(s) to post.

I thank you all once again for your input.
I'm gonna try cropping differently as igor suggested....it will change to a kelp paddy at sunset photo...here ya go skipjack

I really like thewave splashing on the rock but the colors in #5 are spectacular. Nice photos!

DENNIS - 8-23-2010 at 10:24 AM

A sunset is as much, or more, a state of mind as it is watching the sun go out of sight.........unless, of course, you're a Horizonologist. :P

Is that the same as a Horizontalist ;)

Skipjack Joe - 8-23-2010 at 11:07 PM

Shari, the blue in the upper right corner really enhances your last image IMO.

OK, OK...enough...

Mexray - 8-23-2010 at 11:38 PM

...rubbing it in, already!

Yeah, sure they're great photos...another crappy day in paradise, yada, yada, yada....

However, we have some of those colorful days up here in 'Norte', in the San Joaquin valley...

When the smoggy air gets blown over our way from the coast, and you set up the camera near the muni's septic flotation pond where the 'foam' comes blowing up the levee - we can get a few of those rose-orange, puffy cloud shots near the water...:o

No big deal...;D

shari - 8-24-2010 at 10:51 AM

yes Skipjack....it was that blue "eye" that got my attention as I loved the contrast of the colour....I see we are on the same page.

ray...lets see your pics...yadda yadda yadda or in spanish it's weedy weedy weedy!!

jorgie - 8-24-2010 at 11:38 AM

I got a thing going for the 4th
