You have to play with it sometimes. Click on Pacific Hurricanes near the top, then turn on the clouds middle-right. You'll figure it out.

Strangely enough, Frank doesn't seem to have the clouds we see in other events. It may be just a lot of hellacious wind.

We'll see.

mulegemichael - 8-25-2010 at 08:29 AM

i sure don't like his projected path; reminds me of a girl named jimena

Hope for the best, Mike. It's a long way away.

bajajudy - 8-25-2010 at 08:52 AM

Frank is barely a hurricane and, to me, looks like it will fizzle long before we see anything from it.

mulegemichael - 8-25-2010 at 08:55 AM

because he's so far away it just gives us that much more time to fret about it...we were hoping for just ONE year off...got our fingers crossed.

mulegemichael - 8-25-2010 at 09:01 AM

yeah, same characteristics..jimena was a tropical storm for quite awhile before going postal on us....guess i'll just go salmon fishing and hope for the best

Eli - 8-25-2010 at 09:01 AM

Ah Judy, My favorite weather girl, I hope You are right!

Here in Vera Cruz this morning the sun is shiining bright as I have seen it since I have been here. Still, wispy clouds, and the sky is the lightest blue, so different than the intense blue of Baja or the Violet blues of Oaxaca.

mulegemichael - 8-25-2010 at 09:03 AM

hey fishabductor, do you ever come north anymore?..we live here on the olympic peninsula during the summer and fish pretty much everyday if you ever want to join us........thought i would lighten the mood.

comitan - 8-25-2010 at 09:05 AM

From Noaa discussion.

A MID-LATITUDE TROUGH
IS FORECAST BY ALL OF THE MODELS TO DIG SOUTHWARD OFF THE WEST
COAST OF THE U.S. AND BAJA CALIFORNIA...WHICH SHOULD ACT TO ERODE
THE WESTERN PORTION OF THE RIDGE. AS THE STEERING FLOW WEAKENS...
FRANK IS EXPECTED TO SLOWLY TURN NORTHWARD AND POSSIBLY BEGIN
RECURVATURE TO THE NORTHEAST AS A WEAKENING TROPICAL STORM.

I read this that it could pass over the southern Baja as a tropical storm which would give us rain hopefully.

woody with a view - 8-25-2010 at 09:18 AM

weather models show frank fizzling off the west coast right as it gets to cabo. good surf for the cape, tho!

bajajudy - 8-25-2010 at 09:21 AM

Jimena was a major hurricane when she about 400 miles from us. This storm is only predicted to be a cat 1 at the most.

Eli
I, also, hope I am right!

I am thinking about it. I come north about 1x a year or so. i have spent a bunch of time on the Hoko river...my favorite little river. I used to drive out from Montana for college spring break and camp and fish the hoko for a week.

Awe the good old days!!

Hoko River! Great silver action!

mulegemichael - 8-25-2010 at 10:07 AM

my buddy and i have fished the hoko dozens and dozens of times for steelhead...have more ten fish days than i can count..whatta great little stream.

toneart - 8-25-2010 at 10:07 AM

Frank could buttonhook like Jimena, but track further south. It isn't carrying a big volume of rain. Mulege will be spared. La Paz and East Cape could get it, but will not be devastating.

It sure has gathered some clouds compared to earlier. Don't forget to turn them on, middle-right.
Click on Pacific Hurricanes at top too.

Hurricanes feed on heat. They'll increase in power over warm water and weaken over cold water. Never underestimate them.

storm Franck

eddy - 8-25-2010 at 03:30 PM

The storm is going west, will come back to hit Baja on the west side at about the middle of B.C.S. see photo map:

Time to button up the hatches if you haven't done so yet.

Looking at the sea surface temps in the SOC. It appears that water temp rose about 3-4 degress in this week, at least off the central eastcape region.

Gawd. You'd think that with the technology we have today we could have a better handle on this stuff, rather than dueling computer models. Got my fingers and toes crossed.

mulegemichael - 8-25-2010 at 03:55 PM

abductor....we can go fishing ANYTIME you want to...remember that..that's pretty much what we do.

David K - 8-25-2010 at 04:02 PM

Some people in government get paid to be wrong ALL THE TIME!

mulegemichael - 8-25-2010 at 07:24 PM

i have pontoons, i have drift boats...as we say, "just fish"

mulegemichael - 8-25-2010 at 07:34 PM

i hardly ever use ours..prefer the drift boat with a buddy...pontoons are fun in the summer, tho...smallies in the umpqua are fun..what a weird twist from a hurricane post

mulegemichael - 8-25-2010 at 08:05 PM

what river?...i was raised on the clackamas...my brother was a fly fishing guide on the deschutes for ten years...what river?....sorry, hurricane fans

"A River Runs Through It" keeps our minds off the storm anyway

akmaxx - 8-25-2010 at 08:10 PM

Abductor, did you know Andy and Darwin, fellow guides, on the Kenai? Old friends of mine and they were the first to see Mulege with me. Fond memories.

mulegemichael - 8-25-2010 at 08:19 PM

i guided my way through college on the cowlitz...cluster even back then...remember one day i left a couple dudes at the launch after dumping the boat in and when i got back after parking the rig the boat was sitting on the bottom; forgot to put the plug in!!!...learning curve...forty years ago!!
