my father, PETER JEFFRIES

 Pages:  1    3

cynthiajeffries - 8-25-2010 at 01:36 PM

Hello, I am looking for my father, Peter Jeffries. He left for Rosarito Beach or TJ around July 9. He has not contacted anyone since.

If you know of him, please contact me. Thank you.

DENNIS - 8-25-2010 at 01:44 PM

Is that all the info you have?
What was the purpose of his trip? Have your local police looked for credit card activity?
Is he well?
Any photos?
Was he driving a car? What type/color?

The more info, the better.

.

toneart - 8-25-2010 at 02:22 PM

Come on, Cynthia!
We Nomads want to help. Please answer all of Dennis' questions and then use your imagination and come up with more details. Any photos of your father. If you don't know how to post photos, you can do a search on this forum. Also, David K. can assist you.

Does he have any friends in Baja/ Was he going to visit anyone or anything in particular. What is the year of the Ford Ranger? What is the license plate number? You can get this info. from the Mx. insurance company.

What about police work, on the U.S. side and/or the Baja side? Did you report it to the U.S. Embassy? Do you have any reason to believe he doesn't want to be found?

Does he still have money in his account? Have you traced the ATM locations of his last withdrawls? Was that still in Tijuana?:?::?:

A picture would be helpful.....and where "there" he was going to

surfer jim - 8-25-2010 at 03:26 PM

How about some more info.

Driving? Vehicle type? If not, how was he getting there?

Description...height , age, weight.....those kinds of things.

Where was he supposed to go to in T.J. or Rosarito?

Have you filed missing persons report anywhere yet?

I think the more info you can provide the better the response could be.

Bajahowodd - 8-25-2010 at 03:42 PM

Very few. Don't want to appear cynical, but, we all know what a great resource this forum can be, especially when people have trouble SOB. but, obviously, it appears that cynthia is not motivated to share vital info. If she's still reading this forum, she needs to know that everyone wants to help in a crisis.

k-rico - 8-25-2010 at 03:49 PM

Just had a thought. I once went into a town trying to find a guy I hadn't seen in awhile. When I asked around folks were tight lipped. I realized that they didn't know me and were being careful. I could be out to do the guy harm was the thinking I guess.

If you know "Cynthia's dad" tell him that his daughter is looking for him before you post his location on the world wide web or tell "Cynthia" his location.

Some kids are closer to their parents than others so, maybe she doesn't know.
If anyone comes across her dad, he'll fill in the blanks.

She sees our thoughts here. If that doesn't motivate her to be a bit more proactive, this will go nowhere.

cynthiajeffries - 8-25-2010 at 04:19 PM

Please understand I am not being snooty or skimpy with the information. I'm posting this from work and I wasn't expecting this much feed back so quickly, and I appreciate it. I'm trying to find out the plate number. Also, I'm attempting to file a missing persons rept in San Diego. Its difficult since he's an adult and went to MX of his own free will.

My father has black and gray hair and brown eyes. If you watch the tv show NCIS, he sometimes likes to keep his hair like Gibbs. He is about 5 ft 8 inches. I'd say around 160lbs.

The problem is I haven't seen much of him in months. He recently got back from a trip to Costa Rica. Immediately after, he went to my grand parents' house in San Diego (I live in Las Vegas). From there he went to MX. He said he was going to Rosarito Beach to rent a room near the beach. However, my dad does things spur of the moment, so he may have changed his mind.

A look at his bank records show that the maximum daily withdrawl has been taken several times, and the last time his card was used was on August 16. It also shows that in the middle of July, he stayed at the Baja Del Sol Inn motel.

I will have my grandparents send me the most recent picture of his face, and I will figure out how to upload it here.

My dad is an appliance repair technician. He likes to drink beer. I'll continue to update when i think of more info.

Thank you all so much!

David K - 8-25-2010 at 04:54 PM

Thank you Cynthia for the details!

Baja Nomad is the most active forum on Baja, so you came to the right place!

I hope your father pops up soon... He sounds like a lot of Nomads I know!

surfer jim - 8-25-2010 at 06:42 PM

Good to see some more info.

As others have said this forum is very active and even more so when someone is missing (or in need).

I would suggest you check this forum several times a day (if possible) and make a post daily with any new or additional info. Your continued updates will keep up interest in the search.

Does not sound good

lookingandbuying - 8-25-2010 at 07:53 PM

I would be VERY concerned that his card "hit the daily limit then stopped on August 16th" His daughter should definately contact the embassy and local authorities.

cynthiajeffries - 8-25-2010 at 08:16 PM

I am in contact w/ someone at the Embassy. He (somehow) got a hold of my dad's email address and sent him a message. I've been checking to see if he's read his emails (as I have his password), but he hasn't.

My dad is a bit of a Nomad himself, so I'm very hopeful that he's having too much fun...I will work on constructing a flyer, my grandparents say they have a very good pic of him.

My dad enjoyed staying @ a hostel in Costa Rica, so he may be @ one somewhere in Baja.

I posted on craigslist first, mainly because my dad likes craigslist and I was hoping he'd see it. Someone then clued me in on baja nomad :)

Although I am very concerned about the amount of money that has been withdrawn from his acct, 2 weeks before his last withdrawl the same amout was taken out. I am hoping he is using this amount to live on...

DENNIS - 8-25-2010 at 08:19 PM

I know it's a stretch, but a picture of his vehicle would help as well. I know not everybody has that, but ..........

BajaBlanca - 8-25-2010 at 08:29 PM

CYNTHIA - how old is he ?

LET'S HOPE HE IS HAVING A GOOD TIME .... but for sure we will keep an eye out for him

Amazing how we all pull together so fast ... the rest of the world does not always pull together in the right direction, I bet Cynthia was not ready for so many of us in so many parts of Mexico to be on the lookout for her.

The only hostels I know of is the one in Erendira and there is another one in BOLA - anyone know of another one ????? Does anyone have a way to contact the guy in Erendira ? I will send an email right now to the one in BOLA. (done)

[Edited on 8-26-2010 by BajaBlanca]

cynthiajeffries - 8-25-2010 at 08:35 PM

Ok Dennis, thanks! I'll see if I can find one.

Last time I saw my dad, he smoked like a chimney. And he loves to fish. He is 56 years old. He has a large scar on his abdomen from a few surgeries. He likes to say the surgeon "got a little knife happy".

His dog (Misty) is not with him, but she is just like his daughter. She is a basset hound and I'm sure he talks about her often! : ) His teeth probably look perfect because he has a dentist in TJ (I'll try to find out who?).

wilderone - 8-25-2010 at 09:00 PM

"... 2 weeks before his last withdrawl the same amount was taken out."

Optimistically, that sounds reasonable if you pay for a hotel for a week at a time and meals, etc. His bank should be able to pinpoint the place of the withdrawals I think, so you'd at least know if he left Rosarito. May be time for another withdrawal in a day or two.

BajaBlanca - 8-26-2010 at 05:56 AM

Cynthia, even an older picture of your dad will be helpful - we can fill in the blanks and we number in the hundreds (maybe thousands ??) viewing this site on a daily basis.

8/26 BAY OF LA HOSTEL has not seen yr dad but will keep an eye out.

my grandma is sending a picture via snail mail. should get it by tomorrow.

plate number coming asap.

cynthiajeffries - 8-27-2010 at 06:55 AM

more money was withdrawn from his acct last night. not the daily limit, but basically the rest of what he had...

It sure would be helpful if you can get info on where that withdrawal was made. That would narrow down the search considerably.

cynthiajeffries - 8-27-2010 at 07:21 AM

Sorry Dennis, Rosarito. I'll try calling the bank when I get to work and see if they can give me anymore info.

Mr. abductor,
I'm sorry. I'm a young, single, working mother of two babies. My oldest is medically fragile and disabled. To say I'm stretched a little thin is an understatement. I understand if you've reached your end. Thanks for your help!

DENNIS - 8-27-2010 at 07:24 AM

I think it will all come together. Rosarito Beach can be a little distracting for a beer lover.
Let's all keep cool and focused.

Terry28 - 8-27-2010 at 09:04 AM

Nice advice Dennis...cooler heads usually prevail.....

toneart - 8-27-2010 at 09:16 AM

Cynthia is updating regularly with all the info she has and she says more is coming. She is complying with our requests. Thank you, Cynthia!

Does he have credit cards in addition to his ATM Debit Card?

As Cynthia says, he has withdrawn all the rest that was in his bank account, yesterday. Unless Dad has other sources of beer money, it is logical that he will turn up soon. :light:

Could also be waiting for a monthly infusion.
When pictures become available, maybe some of us within reach can go asking and looking.

cynthiajeffries - 8-27-2010 at 09:56 AM

Just debit, toneart. He receives social security disability, and my uncle is his representative payee. @ the beg. of this month, my uncle held off depositing the money until the 8th to see if my dad would contact someone... he didn't! but looking @ his acct, he was still using it, and he has some kind of overdraft protection that not only links his checking with his savings, but then continues to give him cash long after both accts are depleted! when my uncle deposited the soc. sec. money, he was already 400 in the negative!

i think if the bank didn't automatically do this, he would've contacted us by now.

DENNIS - 8-27-2010 at 10:00 AM

Where in the states does he live? Did you mention you had filed a missing person report up there? If not, perhaps you should. The police might be able to get some cooperation from the bank...like freeze his account. That will bring him to the surface, quick.

BajaBlanca - 8-27-2010 at 10:05 AM

Dennis's idea of freezing the acct is a good one unless it leaves him high and dry without ANY cash at all .... lesson to all of us, nomadic life or not, keep in touch with someone ....

cynthiajeffries - 8-27-2010 at 10:06 AM

he doesn't live...anywhere. He lives where he goes like, well, like a nomad! He used to live here in Las Vegas, then he went to Costa Rica for 3 months. He came back to Vegas to pick up his truck and drove to San Diego, where my grandparents live. He stayed there for a couple weeks, then went to MX.

It's starting to seem more and more like he is just having so much fun, he doesn't think about how worried my grandparents and I might be! Time gets away from him, he probably doesn't realize how much time has gone by...

cynthiajeffries - 8-27-2010 at 10:10 AM

Yes Blanca! Someone!!!

He has less than $20 in his acct. I bet he tried to withdraw more, but it wouldn't let him this time. I think my uncle will just hold off depositing the money here in a couple days, and that should draw him out.

I hope.

cynthiajeffries - 8-27-2010 at 10:13 AM

Blanca, just saw the post about the hostel. thank you! if he's not in a hostel, then he is perhaps renting a room.

he's grown very fond of craigslist and that could be where he looked to find one. i posted something on there a week ago and the only response i got was to come to baja nomad. (thank you)

lizard lips - 8-27-2010 at 10:29 AM

Cindy,

Please check your U2U

cynthiajeffries - 8-28-2010 at 08:06 PM

Just got the pictures of my dad today. Some w/ a beard/mustache and one w/out. I'll scan them when I get into work on Mon.

DENNIS - 8-28-2010 at 08:07 PM

Thanks, Cynthia. We're still with you.

SiReNiTa - 8-28-2010 at 08:33 PM

I sure hope your dad is Ok cynthia, I'm sure he's having fun somewhere!

Freezing the bank account after the next withdrawal might work since that would assure that he has enough cash to live on until he surfaces?

Also maybe try contacting the bank in mexico where he is getting the money? I know that they keep a close eye on security cameras so if they had a photo of him they could maybe recognize him and pass on a message??

Also try calling the hotel where he was staying last and/or sending them a photo as well so they can pass it around with their staff.

Rosarito is not that big so I'm sure he will turn up sooner than later, until then we'll all keep you both in our thoughts and prayers!

toneart - 8-28-2010 at 09:02 PM

Cynthia,

Why is your uncle custodian of your father's finances? Is your father mentally impaired, chronically irresponsible, or just a free spirit?

What is his attraction to Latin America?

Your answers could possibly provide clues to his whereabouts. I realize that these questions are personal. If you don't want to answer them, I understand. Just tell me to buzz off.

Debra - 8-30-2010 at 08:00 PM

Being that Dad is a traveler, it makes sence that his brother takes care of his finances...........My Sis-in-law does the same for us.

Cynthia, you really did come to the right place, I've never seen such a network as Nomads that gets things done so quickly. Good, luck to you and give Dad a good scholding when you find hime about keeping in touch. Didn't he insist on that from you?

BajaBlanca - 8-30-2010 at 08:03 PM

well put Debra !!!!

Mexicorn - 8-31-2010 at 08:25 AM

Hey Cynthia any luck on locating that picture of your father?

BajaBlanca - 8-31-2010 at 11:00 AM

Cynthia - you can send the picture to any of us on email and then we willload it for you. sounds like you are overwhelmed with life in general !!
let's stick with "no news is good news !!"

lizard lips - 8-31-2010 at 12:13 PM

I offered my services free of charge to Cynthia and have not heard back. I have worked on many missing person cases here in Baja and told her I could help her with what I know and how to do it.

I am very surprised she has not sent me a message.

I hope her father is ok.......

DENNIS - 8-31-2010 at 12:24 PM

Maybe he's resurfaced. That would be good. The alternatives worry me at this point. Her silence may have reason.

lizard lips - 8-31-2010 at 12:54 PM

I'm sure it's all good Dennis. Keep the faith!

Yeah....I guess that's true although she came to us with a sense of urgency and without something to work with, it's frustrating.

I'm hoping for the best.

cynthiajeffries - 8-31-2010 at 01:16 PM

Ok, sorry guys. I couldn't make it to work yesterday!

Just emailed 5 photos of my dad to Blanca (thanks!).

And yes, Debra. I remember one time I walked home from a middle-school dance (over 5 miles) because he couldn't come get me. He was p*ssed! Thats how I feel right now!

Thanks for all your help!

cynthiajeffries - 8-31-2010 at 01:23 PM

Mr. Lizard,
Today is Tuesday! I haven't forgotten about you, I just stepped into work. :) Any suggestions?

DENNIS - 8-31-2010 at 01:24 PM

Hi Cynthia........While you're at it, you might want to give some thought to Lizard Lip's/ Dan's offer. He's in the business of locating lost people. He's a pro and I would jump on his offer. It won't get any better than that.

Mr Lizard

I'm putting together a flyer with known information and the photo of your dad and his dog. That's what I'll be taking with me , soon, to Rosarito.
I'll take it to, among other places, The Baja Times and get it printed.

Don't let this stop you, Cynthia, from doing one yourself.

Sure wish we had more info on the car.

Could I use your phone number on the flyer? I can add mine...it's a Mexican line.

Does your dad speak Spanish? If not, that would probably narrow the list of places he would hang at.

So....I'm assuming he's expecting a transfusion to his bank account today and it won't be there. True?

Unless your answers are personal, put them up here so everyone can keep up. If personal info....U2U is fine.

DENNIS - 9-1-2010 at 01:13 PM

Is the Baja Times office in the Hotel? Anybody know? I thought it used to be.

Dennis......what Lizard Lips and I did was to have the family print up color flyers with a photo of each person and a look alike vehicle.....English on one side and Spanish on the other........the key will be the vehicle.....find the vehicle and narrow down the search area.

Post in every PEMEX, bank/ATM, give to police, and hand out at military checkpoints.

I'm sure Cynthia appreciates all everyone can do. I also told her to do several other things that would help but because of her current financial problems with two kids to support she cannot come here to do things herself.

I am leaving for work tomorrow in Kyrgyzstan of all places and will be back next Tuesday so I am going to meet with my contacts in Rosirito and get the ball rolling. Maybe by then Peter will have surfaced.

Once the Missing Person's flyer has been posted, as I had asked her, please download a few of these and place them in store windows if you would. Who knows he may even be in Baja Sur so don't think this is just for us Northerners.

Please do what you can to help.

Thanks

Dennis, what I was thinking about doing is keeping a little bit ($20) of money is his acct at any given time. The purpose of this is to know if he (or his card) is moving to some other part of Mexico... I'm not sure if this is a good idea or not?

Lizardlips suggested I not use a phone # on the flyer, and use an email instead. jeffries.cynthia.r@gmail.com

Dad can't hold down a conversation in Spanish, but I'm pretty sure he knows "cervesa"

OK....Dan's suggestion is of course right. I'll give my phone number and your email.

What about the truck? Any info?

I'll be taking copy to Office Depot here maņana and the quest is on.

Anyone in the Rosarito area want to join the party? Sure would like to have some assistance on this.

If not....fine. I'll just do it. I've been on worse missions alone.

I think it's an excellent idea. Maybe a bit more than your minimal amount.
It will keep the trail alive and, if it's him....he may need money. He has to live, but...not too well.

Dennis,

I suspect there's a reason Lizard Lips recommended no phone # at all (if what Cynthia wrote is accurate) - and would respect that.

Thanks, Doug. Being new at this, I surmised some denizens of the saloons may not have access to a computer, but I am old fashioned.

What I told her was not to put her phone number on the flyer because of scammer calls. I get calls here at my home from people who tell me that they are related to me and that their car broke down etc. and send some cash to this bank account number. My wife received a call saying that my son was kidnapped. It really upset her and she called the school and he was fine. The caller did not mention his name just that "our son" was taken. This is a whole new scam in Mexico and I could just see it happening to Cynthia in some way and she does not need that now. I did tell her to post the name of Detective Marquez who is handling this matter for her in the US.

If Dennis gives his number for people to call that would be great. He's street smart and knows what to do and weed out all of the BS.

We need to get the word out there. THAT IS THE ONLY WAY TO DO IT! Putting up these flyers along with Mat and Melissa's at the same time in the same place needs to be done.

On my way back from the airport on Tuesday I told both Joanna and Cynthia that I would stop at the Tijuana morgue and check for any unidentified person's. This needs to be done now so if anyone can go there and do this tomorrow would be great. Just take a copy of Matt and Melissa's flyer and a photograph of Peter and give it to them. We can close that door and move on to the next issue. Put up flyers and a photo of Peter in the Ministerio Publico office's not only in TJ but Rosirito, Ensenada and all offices south.

Let's not concentrate just on Northern Baja--- They could be anywhere so close those doors.

I told Joanna that she needs to get a family member or someone to get down here and do the flyer thing all the way to the tip.

All of you are great people that I have always respected and admired for your knowledge of Baja. Let's all pull together and get this done for THEM.

Thanks, Cynthia.....One more thing; does the pickup have a camper or a camper shell on it? Given his shortage of money, he may be living in it.

cynthiajeffries - 9-2-2010 at 08:18 AM

No camper shell or anything like that
