Alaska/Horizon now flying a prop plane to Loreto

My brother went to our house in Loreto today and Alaska/Horizon is now flying a prop job from LAX to LTO. He said the plane was half full and took an extra 30 to 40 minutes of travel time. The pilot had to make an aggressive approach and slammed the plane on the ground. No more CRJ's...

The locals think a huge storm is coming and have blocked the upper arroyo crossing because they are digging a trench to divert and slow the water. Hopefully to help not destroy the lower paved/concrete road and lights. I see nothing on the radar showing a local big storm. 30% chance of rain for the next five days is the highest.

They say the YT fishing has slowed way down and they are catching larger Dorado way out. They are also catching some Yellow Fin way out. Some are rather large. No size or weight yet. I will post that info when received.

why??

MMLT is hugely long because it was designed for turbine fanjets to operate in summer.

if he flew like that then i say poor pilot technique.

wakemall as a pilot who, like capt. mike, has flown into and out of Loreto many times, I too would like to know more about the aggressive approach (if you know). Was there weather involved? Traffic? Runway 34-16 at Loreto is 7200 feet long, surely no need to do a no-flare, hard short field landing.

I note that wakemall said that the plane was 1/2 full. And i believe there are only like 4 flights a week. Don't anyone hold their breath for lower fares.

Hey all,

Just reporting what I was told. My brother probably spends half the year flying on commercial and private jets. Just forwarding his comments. He said it was bumpy and windy. I only have experience flying a Cessna 150 and 172 working on my pilot’s license.

I have a question? How many hours does the pilot have to have to fly a twin prop commercial aircraft verses the CRJ? I think there is a huge difference. The pilot may have short hours and come from a cargo position with UPS or FedEx. There is a big difference between flying cargo and passengers.

Just a simple question?

if you go thru an FAA accredited ab initio school you can grad at 200 hours and find yourself in the right seat of ANY turbo prop part 121 carrier.

and get paid MAYBE about $10 an hour....time building and they take full advantage of the competition for seats - supply and demand. there are thousands of young budding jet captains male and female who will work FOR FREE just for stick time.
think about that next time you are in even a50 seat RJ commuter with fanjet engines, the 2nd in command might be so new he is basically a computer programmer and simulator pro....
