I haven't been through this area since the late 80's and I'm planning an October trip. Can you help me with some current information?
I'll try!
Is remote beach camping around Punta Cabras safe or should I look for a campground/ cabana? Are there some nice remote beach camp sites out there?
As mentioned above a good choice would be Cal's. Right below Cal's is a good spot along with many others between there and Cabras. Perhaps
start off at Cal's and then make a move...
I want to ride quads north to Punta San Tomas and then south to Colonet. Do these ranches have locked gates/ wire? Is it cool to open ranch gates if
you shut it behind you?
Dude there is no end to the quad riding in that area! You have to go some funky way to get around the cement plant at Punta China. There was a
pretty good post about that in the last few months. Do a search...
Anything else I need to be aware of?
Right next to Castro's is a Fish Packing house and you can buy really FRESH fish for CHEAP!
Any recent crime/ narco / robbing of campers activity lately?
So far we have been very lucky as none of that I have heard of in the area.
Is the rockfish bite usually good in October?
It's always good! It's the weather that can be bad...
What does Castro's Camp charge for a trip outside?
Figure around $160 for the day plus tip to the cappy and of course tipping the fish cleaning station
Any other suggestions?
Cien Ano Tequila and Pacifico Nada mas...
