Rio Hardy condition request

mcfez - 9-2-2010 at 12:39 PM

The Wify and friends are heading down this week.....how's the highway construction looking down there in the Rio Hardy area? Oh.....and the military check point be fore SF...still total wasteland to drive on? Thanks

I thought I would give you my .02 since no one has responded.
I have a couple of friends with houses down there and they have been going almost every other weekend since the EQ to repair their houses. They have mentioned there is a dirt section on the highway but nothing that is to difficult to pass. I would estimate the dirt section would add at most 20 minuest to the drive time.

The detour (last July 18th) began just south of La Puerta and continued for several miles to almost Rio Hardy... Looks like they are adding to the 4 lanes wide section as that is where the construction begins (where the 4 lane section ended, south of La Puerta (BC 4 Jcn).

Maybe it will be done? I read that locals were driving on new pavement after hours (going through road blocks)... :smug:

I go there almost every weekend. the road is almost done to the turnoffs for the river. You will have about a mile of dirt road as of last weekend. It is not bad to travel. the river is as clean as I have seen it in years and things are getting back to normal. Have fun. Tell here to stop and see us we are at Felix campo 78. On the river we are the 5th house with a yellow moblie next to it

Good news...

Mick, someday we want to take you up on your invite... I bet you have fun on the river (in or out of the water)! I hope there will be a time soon when we don't have to work so much!

I keep thinking about getting my Hunting permit and just haven't gotten to it. Two more years and I will be living there. Can't wait.
David anytime you want just let me know when you guys can come.
It has been very interesting watching the different ways people have been fixing there places or in some cases not. There are still many houses that have not been touched. I heard that over 30 properties have been abandoned. Hope someone gets them and fixes them up.
Leaving in 3 hours.
See ya Mick
