Mita Gourmet in Loreto

Reading Ken's post on Loreto inspired me to post a review from our trip last Feb.

Mita Gourmet is located in the heart of the Town Square, which at the time was all torn up, with dining both inside and in a patio at the entrance of the restaurant. They have entertainment too, more on that later.

Seafood, some meats and pasta dominate the menu with average prices for seafood around 120 pesos. We chose Chocolate Clams Gratinade and Camarones Diablo. They both were excellent.

As we were enjoying a couple of Margaritas waiting for dinner to arrive, Herzon began to set up his equipment. He is a Guitarist from the mainland that works in Loreto in the cooler months. He plays an accoustic guitar, sings and has a synthesizer for percusion. He is very talented both in his playing and his vocals. He really mixes it up too. We heard Pink Floyd, Sting to Reggae and some cumbias.

What a trip to be sitting out in the night air in Loreto enjoying a delicious meal while listening to "another brick in the wall" by a Mexican guitarist.

Highly recommend this restaurant for at least one meal. I would go there the first night, because we would have gone back a second time had we not been leaving.

Ken

They were almost at capacity while we were there.

I had a great meal there a year ago. We took some of the morning's catch (snapper and dorado) to the Mita Gourmet and returned for an unbelievable meal. The chef made an appetizer of the snapper - best described as "snapper fingers" with a chipotle cream dipping sauce - we all fought for them. Then they brought out the snapper and dorado prepared four different ways including my favorite, huachinango veracruzana along with pasta, vegetables, and hot bread. All this for just 75 pesos per person - definitely an incredible bargain. Would recommend that all fisherman take their catch for this experience.
