Is Campo Rene closed? Was thinking of staying a night. The website is gone. Was there twice in '08. The cool weather was a great relief in August.capt. mike - 9-5-2010 at 06:46 AM
BBP says it is open. go there anyway, camp - if no one is there you can still get stull in town close by.torch - 9-5-2010 at 07:27 AM
I stopped by there last week - open. The fishing coop. has signs posted to not drive on the beach. I found out they were posted to protect the sea
turtles and there were alot of them.Marc - 9-5-2010 at 07:37 AM

DK sez...."Yah, pilots love to talk in code... It is really funny when they name airports in Baja by code and expect the rest of the Nomads to have a
clue! LOL A secret society for sure... even their once public forum is now only viewable by paying members of BBP/ Baja Bush Pilots. They had
restricted posting by non-members, but allowed viewing... which can only help membership... Oh well..."
Dave - i have used the acronym BBP here since day one. it is not an airport identifier - it means Baja Bush pilots and my guess most who have dallied
here since 2003 get it. Newbies maybe not but i still prefer to type less since i don't type by touch sight free. - never learned.
the reasons Jack decided to limit his forum to dues paying members has been discussed here in depth, and your arguments in favor of keeping it open
don't hold up. Making it free would not add to the population of bonafide members. The BBP website has TONS of info and pages available to the public.
If you want to join the active discussions pony up $49 for the year. It amounts to less than a fill up for your Toy ota.jeremias - 9-5-2010 at 06:21 PM
I was there in late June, and I think I payed about 20 bucks for a decent cabina.

Several of my guests have visited the camp this summer and had a fine time with good food and good hosting.capt. mike - 9-6-2010 at 06:08 AM
"Do you buy shoes or nice clothes without trying them on... ?"
The site is free - only the forum and some pilot database sections requires a membership at a paltry $49 a yr.
you missed the point Amigo - like i said the non members section of the BBP website is chock full of informative pages for free.
but if you want access to the discussion forums which contains data and reports of interest and value to PILOTS flying Mexico and Baja, then it costs
a SMALL premium which helps pay for and support the expensive lobby efforts that go on in Mexico city and DGAC (mex's FAA). Membership has GROWN in
spite of charging to view forums. Freeloading lurkers have had to move on. If they are active Mexico pilots they are missing out. If they are non
pilots they made a simple biz decision.
if it were free to all to access and read there would be a disincentive to pay for it. I'm not talking about just reading and not being able to post
which would satisfy you. The carve out value IS in the reading from other members and admin who pony up. Do you not join and pay for other baja info
clubs like Vags? Well i don't because i don't ground pound in a moho so their info does not interest me.
DK - some businesses DO cost $$ to run and BBP is no exception. Its the member dues that keeps it afloat, not a bunch of banner ads like the case for
free forums like this one. Its an apple and orange.
The BBP site has info which in all fairness needs $$ contribution support by membership to keep current and a part of the action. I know it gripes
you not to be able to read it free but your bias against their decision to make it semi private is rather pedantic. There are a dozen other baja
subject websites/forums out there to play on and you are a participant in most as i can observe. If you want to know what the flyers are doing you
have to pay to play.woody with a view - 9-6-2010 at 12:13 PM

No, no... their site was made so non-members couldn't post there... and that was fine... It is them making their site invisible to non-members, I was
complaining about. Sorry that you didn't know that... I do have good logic for what I think.mtgoat666 - 9-6-2010 at 01:01 PM

Not to mention.....how many people pay for membership at Costco? What do we get out of that? It's not like we get to march in parades or anything as
cool as that.
Will it be on my headstone?

Funniest post of the year award material !!!!
Hey DK,
Maybe the BBP guys just don't want you to know what they are saying about you !?
Or just maybe it has something to do with the increased concern over aviation security ?
Duh, ya think ??

Sorry dt, I haven't been to Campo Rene in 4 years.
We have always gone in a camper or trailer and loved the atmosphere of the place.
A quiet paddle in a kayak or canoe can open up a whole new world !dtbushpilot - 9-6-2010 at 02:09 PM
We've been there many times, both flying in and driving. We've camped and also rented a "cottage" a few times. We love it there and always look
forward to returning. The estuary is really something if you are into bird watching. There is good fishing in the estuary too. The restaurant changes
management often it seems but it is usually open and pretty good. It's a great place to kick back and do nothing (my specialty).
It's been a year since we've been there so if someone has recent experience it would be appreciated....dtwoody with a view - 9-6-2010 at 02:18 PM

I joined BBP shortly after Senterfitt started it, paid my dues for many years, and considered it a great value. I got a lot of reliable information
from them and did several of their fly-ins. If I were still flying I would pony up the $49 in a heartbeat to participate in the forum.rts551 - 9-6-2010 at 05:17 PM

Thanks! That's all i really needed to know.
The BBP discussion may be continued on my other post "Mytsery Aircraft"
Probably more appropriate there.elgatoloco - 9-6-2010 at 08:08 PM
Estero Coyote at Campo Rene has the northenmost mangroves in the western hemisphere. Great bird watching and some fun yak paddling and fair fishing.
Good times.bajajudy - 9-7-2010 at 09:03 AM

Go, you will enjoy it.
The food at the restaurant was great the last time my husband was there.
Please let us know how your visit was...trip report!b1 - 9-7-2010 at 09:26 AM
I was there in late February or early March of 2008 and really enjoyed the visit. Other than the folks running the restaurant, I was the only one
there. Food was good; shower even better. The bird watching was great.

Restaurant was not serving food but the bar was open and the rum and cokes tasted great.

No worries. We have an extensive library of books on flora and fauna terrestial and marine of Baja and one of them had said that was fact and it
always stuck with me especially when I first went there and explored the place in a kayak. It has recently been brought to my attention (148,000
results 0.27 seconds) that the Red Mangrove 'Rhizophora mangle' has been positively identified in a small area in Fort Matanzas National Monument in
St. Johns County, Florida by some biologists from Florida and Georgia. They wrote a paper on it.
We have visited Estero Coyote several times and once in February we experienced one of the coldest nights ever camping on the beach in Baja but were
rewarded with world class birdwatching. Flocks of American (Mexican?) Pelicans in the dozens, a group of curlews in the hundreds, and about 20 other
species we ID'd. The beachcombing and shelling was great and a walk along the entrance of the estuary on the incoming tide found Pacific White Sided
Dolphins rushing in for a look see. Good times.
I saw half a sea lion there on the beach. Looks like Jaws had a bite to eat. Or maybe it was Willie.BajaDanD - 9-7-2010 at 11:13 PM
La Bocana is not south of Estero Coyote Abreojos is however
Picture is worth a thousand words...

The village of La Bocana (the 'Mouth' of the lagoon) is just about straight across (west) from Campo Rene (not shown, but on that little point on the
south side of the estero). La Bocana village is at the north end of the lagoon... making Estero El Coyote a bit north of the La Bocana lagoon, as
Whistler said.BajaDanD - 9-7-2010 at 11:16 PM
I stand corrected I looked on Google and Estero coyote is slightly north. I was thrown off by the fact that when you drive from Campo Rene to Asuncion
you go north and on your way you go past La Bocana.
I used to always tell people that Lake Tahoe was west of Los Angelas Had to pull out maps to prove it. I believe its even west of Santa Barbara
