help from you salsa and hot sauce pros

capt. mike - 9-5-2010 at 07:26 AM

my esposa has developed a condition that now precludes her from consuming tomatos or such derived/based foods - so her cravings for hot sauce, salsas - spaghetti sauce - anything made from a tomato base product - is off the list.
as she loves mexican and all things hot - what can we do?

any one have a hot sauce or salsa recipe that is sans tomatos??
this sucks. we have had plenty of relish products with chilis and such, fruit etc but not hot enuff.
and for a hot sauce - well i have made some good ones without toms but open to ideas.
thx.
maybe others are similarly afflicted?

Try making salsa using mangos or papayas instead of tomatoes, great flavors! If you want hot just use more serranos.

Mike...This is a nifty little book. Lots of tomatoless salsas. Google it and you'll have links to buy it.

thx everyone.
good options all.
it has to do with the high acidity of the tomatos. and some other things in toms that she can't ingest.

too bad. i really enjoy sitting in a tom patch with cold beer a buck knife and some sea salt...
