3 only Three!

rocmoc - 9-5-2010 at 12:42 PM

We don't want to spend the entire trip traveling, setting up & breaking down.

What 3 locations would you stay / camp in an RV for a week or more? At least one location needs to have off-road access for a little dirt play!

Already going to spend 10 days traveling!

Thanks,
rocmoc n AZ/Baja

mcfez - 9-5-2010 at 12:47 PM

North or central or south? Pacific or Cortez side?

LaRibereņa - 9-5-2010 at 12:59 PM

Trinidad RV Resort in La Ribera, BCS, on the Sea of Cortez.

Howard - 9-5-2010 at 02:30 PM

Need a little more help. What is more important, fishing, surfing? Do you need electric, bathrooms? Do you need to be able to go to town for supplies? Etc., etc.

Can't beat the Bay of Conception.

rocmoc - 9-5-2010 at 02:40 PM

We are fully self-contained so we can boondock. 5er Toyhauler so we have the pull vehicle plus toys, sidexside & kayak. Most important, warm with as few bugs as possible. We are traveling the full length. Have made many fly-in trips but first in RV. Have many miles on the mainland.

Thanks LaRiberena!

Thanks Howard! We will be stopping at the Bay, just haven't decided how long. Have been there before but in a renta car.

fishabductor, Yes have done the Walmart thing. If you are only in route, get in late after a long day's drive and leaving early, why waste the money with services you are not going to use & are self-contained!

See wasn't that easy!

mcfez, Can you narrow it down to 3?

Thanks,

Of course I'm a bit prejudiced but the camping beach at Punta Chivato for a self contained rig is really great. But the road in is a b-tch now. There are so many place to ride the SxS or quad. The 2nd best is Asuncion. Well maybe Asuncion is better this time of year. And you don't have to worry about Azulito stealing your water.

Howard - 9-5-2010 at 05:13 PM

1: Bahia Conception

2: Loreto @ Rivera del Mar RV Park. Clean up, charge the batteries (mental and RV) and go to town for supplies, beer and a meal. Good for 1 night or so.

3: La Ventana/ El Sargento just south of La Paz. Good for a couple or so nights

4: If they are still "open" Tecolote Beach just outside of La Paz. Nothing much to do but I love this place as it is right on the water with a million $ view with a couple of nice beach type restaurants/bars. good for anywhere between 3 nights and a lifetime.

5: I don't care much for the hubbub of Cabo and San Jose.

I have made the trip more than a few times and these places are where I would go.

Anyone else out there, what do you think?

David K - 9-5-2010 at 06:31 PM

Yah... we need some better data to help you with three places... like how far south do you want to drive, what do you like to do...?

North to south for me in Baja Norte would be:

1) Shell Island Km 26 (Laguna Percebu Km 20 or Nuevo Mazatlan Km 32 could sub)
2) Gonzaga Bay (Campo Beluga or Sacrificio)
3) Bahia de los Angeles (Daggetts or other spots north of town)

You can do all sorts of off road day trips of exploration from those three places... limited supplies at 1 (Km. 35) & 2, everything at 3. Beaches at all three.

Thanks everyone! MORE!

mcfez, Where is the pic location?

David K, Triple axle Toyhauler access? We are planning on making it to the Southern Tip of Baja going around the loop.

Loreto & Cabo are off the list as we have spent many weeks at both locations.

Thanks again,

What 3 locations would you stay / camp in an RV for a week.....I assumed they were going with a trailer or Motor home....Gonzaga Bay road trip would be hell on wheels trying to get there.

It's Bahia de Los Angeles ...... is located 42 miles south east of Baja Highway One approximately 350 miles south of the U.S. One of the coolest sights is when you crest the hill getting to the bay.....AWESOME sight!

U know...one can spend weeks at BOLA and see/do something new every day!

Fishing, snorkeling, island hopping, grocery stores, a pharmacy, a museum, a medical clinic, turtle farm......the list is endless. We like Daggetts Campground

Ummm... I posted this above, so YOU could pick: See this at the bottom of all my posts?: Links to Baja Locations: http://community-2.webtv.net/vivabaja/tours USE IT to help you decide!

(towing would eleiminate much dirt road driving, so scratch Gonzaga... and because Hwy. 5 isn't paved all the way, scratch the San Felipe area... New picks if it was me: L.A. Bay, Concepcion Bay, East Cape (La Ribera to Cabo Pulmo).

mcfez - 9-6-2010 at 03:08 PM

Google Bahia de Los Angeles in the images. You'll have a great view. DavidK....always check out his site for a insiders info on Baja. Attach is a veiw of a camp site at dags.....there is a motel there too right next to these campsites.....that is super clean, cheap. Never had a bad time in BOLA!

El Norte - 9-7-2010 at 07:29 AM

I'm no expert but have many trips with a toyhauler with ATV and Zodiak looking for off roading, fishing and scenery. On that basis my 3 would be:

Bahia de los Angeles - Daggetts

Punta Chivato - it's worth the 20k or so of washboard.

Los Barriles - Playa Norte or free camp in the arroyo next to it. ( la Rivera is an alternate but the constant wind streight onto the beach all winter is a factor to consider there if you plan to launch any boat):):)

rocmoc - 9-7-2010 at 03:57 PM

Thanks everyone! I have looked up every location and bookmarked to a BajaWinter 2010 folder.

You are going in the winter? Oh...well you might want to check wind conditions then. I like October and April for camping.

Baja&Back - 9-7-2010 at 08:02 PM

Playa Norte in Los Barriles - beachfront.

Makes a lot of sense to me as it covers much of what the peninsula has to offer.

tripledigitken - 9-7-2010 at 11:25 PM

Bahia de los Angeles...

opportunity to get out on the water for fishing, diving or whale shark watching, and off roading to San Fransiquito and/ or Mission San Borja

Ojo de Liebre (Guererro Negro area)

whale watching, great uncrowded campsites

Bahia de Concepcion, El Requeson

Only two times really to leave AZ,

June & the dead of winter, Dec, Jan & Feb.

Oct & Apr are outstanding in AZ.

BajaBlanca - 9-8-2010 at 07:43 AM

If you are leaving in Jan and esp Feb - go to San Ignacio to take in whale watching. And if you don't mind a little washboard at the end of the paved road, visit us in La Bocana - dunes, beaches, warm during day - cool at night, kayaking or kayak fishing or birdwatching in the lagoon, bigtime fishing with Juanchys or Domingo, mountainbiking with the local bike club, kite surfing every afternoon and eating at a wonderful restaurant called Cactus run by local Joaquin....
