Baja Bush Pilots

Skeet/Loreto - 9-7-2010 at 09:43 AM

The Baja Busch Pilots are a great bunch of Pilots who help many people in need. They do all sorts of things that we never hear about.
I , after meeting and getting aquianted with Arnold Senterfitt in 1968 became a member and was really proud of being a member.

After sellling my last Aircraft and moving from Baja I contacted the Bush pilots and ask if I might become an Honorary member as I had many hours of time in Baja as well as being an Aircraft Accident Investigator, and member of the Society of Air Safety Investigators. I thought I might help with information about landing strips, Winds, safety Hazards etc.
Anyway they did not accept me as I just wanted to do it to Help and not use their services.
I even met the guy who runs it at the Hermisellio Airport and discussed it with him.. No Luck.

I just thought they might let me be an Honorary Member because of my Age and experienced,.

No Luck.

I was disappointed and still am, but still think they have a Great club. and I am sure the $49 is worth it.

IF, Skeet, you'd spent as many hours as others, including me, have in the c-ckpits along Avenida Revolucion, you'd might have the requisite number of Takeoffs and Landings, including Touch and Goes.

There's always time for a refresher course. The instructors are still there for the Check-Rides.

Don't worry about it, Skeet. You've earned your honor.

Here's a trophy from BBP:

That goes for me, too, Skeet. You are to 'flying in Baja'.. what 'making beer is to Milwaukee.'

Hell..give yourself an award!

Thanks Amigos:
My offer was so that I might answer any questions on the various strips to any new Pilots coming into Baja for the first time.

1. Landing and taking off at the Serinadad can be a little tricky for a first time Pilot.
2. There are places and approaches to various strips that the Winds when coming from the West at a good speed can make you do Flip-Flops when you least suspect.
3. Taking off downwind on a Warm Day at Sta. Innez can get a little Hairy.

Anyhow. If you are going to be flying in Baja , Mexico, or Central America it would be my suggestion to join and get all the information you can and talk with some of the old Timers about certain areas you may be going for the first Time.

Skeet, I would be honored to start a 'club' with you... 'Baja Airstrip Amigos' for pilots and non-pilots or former pilots who freely and friendly exchange informaton on the airports of Baja California... Photos, conditions, changes over the years.

No secret handshake or annual fee needed to see... Nomad even has a forums for flying to Baja. I have posted many satellite images of the runways in Baja there, already... Since I don't fly, it was for the interest of pilots here on Nomad,as well as any others who are just curious bout the many runways all over the peninsula.

Here is Part 1, San Felipe to L.A. Bay runways: http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=43077

Part 2, Punta Prieta to Guerrero Negro: http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=44822

Part 3, Ensenada to Laguna Chapala: http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=44848

That was my original thoughts when I contacted the BBP.
Your information is very good on the sites you have posted. There is lots of information about a lot of strips out there.
I hope that you are able to keep posting on those strips.
