How does one travel from Los Cabos to La Paz in the bus?

I have a niece meeting me in La Paz soon, she is flying into Los Cabos, I know there is a comfortable bus from San Jose del Cabo (Aguila). What does she need to do? Take a taxi from the airport? Does the bus pick up people at the airport? She does not speak Spanish. I can't find a schedule on the web...

Does anyone have experience with this? Any advice is appreciated :?:

I've often wondered why the bus didn't make a stop at the airport. Something to do with the taxi unions?

That's quite a find, Kate. Approximately $25 us each way. I did note that they only make two trips daily.

We had a non-spanish speaker use this service about 4 months ago. No problems. Bus is a very comfortable tour bus type.
When I picked some one up at Cabo 6 months ago I noticed there was a woman who spoke English who was able to help people with the buses at Terminal 1. There were several lined up at the time.

Agree with Kate. Have done the airport run a few times with lead footed drivers. Best time 2:40. Kate has a head start on me since she is in La Paz.

There is a bus that shuttles you to the San Jose bus terminal, when you exit the terminal the bus is right there, from there you will transfer to the next bus to La Paz-there acan be a wait of up to 45 minutes depending on your timing. Be careful you do not get on a time share bus. Alternatively, you can taxi 1km to the hiway and wait at the bus stop next to the airport overpass and wait on the northbound side for the freeway for the bus to stop. This is usually fastest and cheapest-but not great for first timers.

Or preferably take the direct shuttle noted if the schedule meets yours.

Driving round trip from La Paz to pick someone up requires usually 6 hours compared to a safe and pleasant $25, 2.5 hour bus ride for the new arrival.

If by taxi..

You can pre-arrange one-way and round trip taxi trips with local services. We have pre-booked to La Ventana and Los Barriles over the years.

Most recently we have used T.T. Cabo del Este. The company operates out of the Van Wormer hotel group (Palma de Cortez, Playa del Sol). The one-way cost for 2 is about $120 to LB (just over an hour), so I would imagine double to La Paz. Perhaps prices might be negotiable as they have jumped a bit over the past 5 years.

We have also grabbed an unbooked cab when our driver didn't show up one time. Walk right through the exit doors to the sidewalk before the parking lot and then an airport official (like a parking lot marshal) will help with negotaite a ride in English. In this case, having arrived in time to get to the destination before sunset is a good idea as it's a long hike for the driver.

Baja Pony Express website matches up people who need rides between LB and the airport, but that's still a ways from La Paz!

Lots of people rent cars with good success if you haven't explored this idea.

Sorry, but no way is it a two-hour drive from SJD airport to La Paz! Closer to three. The east road (via Los Barriles) is full of curves, and if you get behind a slow-moving vehicle, you can go for long distances without being able to pass. Parts of the west road (via Todos Santos) are still under construction.

Apparently there's now a bus you can get from the airport to La Paz.

"The bus departs from Terminal 1 only for the return trip to La Paz. Tickets are sold at the EcoBaja kiosk after you leave the arrival area. Turn left into the terminal. If your flight arrives in the other terminal, you will need to get to Terminal 1, probably walk."

Thanks a million for the info! If she gets there too late, I guess there are buses to La Paz from the center. Does anyone have the link to their schedule? It is Aguila, right?

oldlady, Kate had even more of a head start on you since I was the driver, not her!:lol: Three R-T to San Jose and/or Cabo in the past 2-3 months....both routes Todo Santos & El Triunfo = 3 hours. I have a charachiture sketch someone drew of me many, many years ago that's titled Parnelli Jones! ;)

Not even from the SJD airport is it under 100 miles to the outer city limits of La Paz.

Just as a heads-up, when I went town to pick Kate up on her last flight, my drive was timed for a 3-hour trip, it took 3 hours....ONLY TO DISCOVER HER FLIGHT HAD ARRIVED 30 MINUTES EARLY & she'd breezed through customs & immigration!:(

C-Urchin, I sure hope you got the bus information you were looking for out of here despite all the "driving time & it depends on the road conditions, number of cows & rock falls on the road" controversy!:lol:

It is 67 miles from Los Barriles to La paz and 40 miles from Los Barriles to San Jose Del Cabo Airport So the distance is 107 miles +/- With two moutain passes and several small towns to pass including San (Tope) Bartolo. I have driven these routes many times and I have to agree with morgain7, better plan on three hours especially if there is a cervesa or bano stop along the way. You have been here too long.........You are on Mexican Time:lol::lol::lol:

Yes, there is a direct Los Cabos airport to La Paz shuttle. It's the one at www.shuttletolapaz.com as mentioned above. As far as I can tell, it is simply called "La Paz Los Cabos Shuttle".

I took it in the other direction (La Paz to Los Cabos airport) last month and it was great. Nice, comfortable, air-conditioned bus and it was on time.

It has 2 departures from the airport - at 2:30 pm (arriving in La Paz at 5:30) and at 5:00 pm (arriving in La Paz at 8:00 pm).

You could also go to the main bus terminal on the malecon in La Paz and get any other info you need or want right at their counter. As you walk in the terminal, it's on the left side at the back together with the Peninsula bus line.

Since your niece doesn't speak Spanish, this might be the best bet for her. (No hasseling with taxi drivers or trying to figure out which bus to take to another terminal in the centro of San Jose.)

I agree with Kate too - it's more like a 3-hour drive from La Paz to the Los Cabos airport.

If you go through these towns at 45mph I suppose you also are the one's that go through the moutains on the wrong side of the road, just a matter of time till you meet your end and maybe someone elses:light: Slow down and you might live long enough to see your young children grow up. It is at least a three hour trip.........

First of all I do not drink and drive but there are many who do which is another reason to slow down. Sometimes my friends that come to visit like to have a cold one on the ride from the airport as it is a hour from SJD to Los Barriles and second driving in the states is not remotely close to driving in Baja:rolleyes:
