Interesting, Eclectic Art and Unique Objects For Your Casa

Dear Fellow Nomads,

I want to let everyone know that dear friends and ex-pats have a fantastic gallery on the Transpeninsula Highway to Ensenada. The name of this wonderful establishment is Art & Stuff.

Not only do they have a beautiful art display, but a multitude of very unusual pieces that could adorn your casa in Baja or the US.

We have purchased items there from as little as $10 up to $1,000, including wall sculptures, tables, chairs, chests, decorative bowls, water color, acrylic and oil paintings, many from original artists. Speaking of artists, our Marilyn, co-owner with husband, Lorenzo is quite the artist herself, creating many eclectic, colorful items, such as paintings, wall hangings, clocks, picture frames, mirrors, and tables, chairs, cabinets, oxbows… to which Marilyn has added her creative touch.

Marilyn (aka Senora Q) also contracts for painting your very special piece of furniture that needs a face-lift. From a table, chair, free standing screens, to a custom designed frame for that special piece of artwork…

They are located on the Transpeninsula Highway at KM 103 just north of Ensenada (ocean side), on the second floor above restaurant Ophelia. A very visible landmark immediately north is a tall white recently completed condo building.

Below are several links to articles that have been written about Art & Stuff.

They've had a good inventory since they opened. I'm assuming, from they're taste for quality, they are the same owners and if I remember correctly, I think the year was around '92...something like that. They used to have stuff on both floors.

Anyway, another landmark would be the big propane company, ZETA, across the street.

I was there years and years ago ... and I also remember a typical Mexican wood furniture store that was on several floors and featured huge sized pieces - tables, armoires, carved mirrors - don't know if it is still around and for sure don't remember the name BUT what I do know is that it was a pleasure to just walk around and admire it all .....

I think it's been called "Art 'n Stuff" from the beginning.

Dennis, yes you are correct... Their name has always been Art & Stuff... their previous location was across the street from the propane company and they were on two floors, but due to a recalcitrant landlord they decided to move and found their current space further north about 3-4 years ago... The tall white condo building is a great landmark... if you are headed south... they are just one or two buildings beyond that "landmark" on the same (ocean) side.

The owners, Marilyn (Senora Q) and Lorenzo are really terrific people and would love to see Nomads come for a visit (and a purchase or two would be an added plus!). They have been in the Ensenada area for quite a long time. Previously, I believe they were in Rosarito.

While they don't carry a lot of furniture, per se, I have found a number of pieces they have acquired to which Marilyn has added her magic touch to turn what was once a ho-hum piece of furniture into something spectacular that everyone comments on and admires. There is (or was the last time I checked in May) a furniture store just to the south (also on the ocean side).

And Shari, yes... Ophelia is a terrific restaurant... we've eaten there often! Love their food and wine!...

Art & Stuff's inventory often changes so if you've been there before, you may want to stop by again when you have the opportunity.

Should you find something you really love... don't leave without it... as we did... We were admiring a gorgeous water scene painting ... and wanted to think about it for a bit... (we had already met our quota of art purchases for that trip) when we went back a few days later... it was gone and we were heartbroken! It was an original and gorgeous! We were foolish to not make some arrangements with Marilyn and Lorenzo... Anyway...lesson learned... the hard way!

Thanks for your interest...

Linda

PS... The painting that we didn't buy and sorely wished we had was a sailing scene by Merino... it was awesome! I don't remember for sure, but I think someone from San Francisco bought it...
