Doing the crossword today there was a three letter word, the clue of which was "that muchacha". "Her", in espanole, right? I only know 'ella' but
that obviously didn't work but when I worked it out the other way it came as 'esa'. Is that another word for 'her'? Couldn't find it in my Univ of
Chicago dictionary.

Likely means 'she', in the case of your crossword. Feminine form... 'this'/'that'/her.
(now someone say something totally different, show how awful my Spanish really is)
nena
[Edit: forget what I said about 'she', it means 'her... sometimes I babble.]

As in "Esa mujer es muy bonita". Could also be used as "Esa taza de cafe esta muy caliente". Catch my drift?

I had trouble with Spanish at first. I knew Los Angeles Spanish which is way different than Mexico Spanish. My wife, who is from Sinaloa has taught me
alot these past 10 years. Now I sometimes even speak "Sparacho", Spanish while boracho.
