Rv'ing in Mulege

Should be headed south here again pretty soon and I'm tired of the places I have been staying, used to pull the RV into Orchards then moved to Maria Isabellas and it's just not working, so were looking for a new camping spot. were pretty much self contained in the camper but it'e nice to not have to go to far to dump or get water and we bring the Trophy so we don't want to get too far out of town and have to drive a long ways to the ramp on the river. Any Ideas on a new camping spot????????? 2-4 week stay.:bounce:

Why didn't The Orchard or Maria Isabel's work out for you?

The Orchard has several RV sites with sewage dump and water. I am not talking about the dry camping area to the west of the houses. That has not been cleared since the floods. What I am talking about are lots that were cleared after their houses were wiped out from the last hurricane/flood.

Regarding Maria Isabel's, what was the problem there? They appear to have RVs still coming in there.

I don't think you will have a problem finding a space because many RV tourists and many part time residents are not returning.

Maria Isabel's has the basics of a pretty decent RV Park with one exception that turns a lot of people off. The dirt drives and RV parking spots are coated with some type of oil to hold down the dust. The oil soaked sand is impossible not to track into your RV and grind into carpets and rugs. If you have a dog, as many RV'ers travel with, they become an oil coated mess also. The dust would be preferable to the oil. I have heard numerous complaints about this, and hope they can find a way to solve the problem. It would greatly improve their business. They have good highway access, and generally a pretty nice spot.

x2! Can't stand the "dirty" dirt at Maria Isabelas. Never knew what made their dirt so unique. :(

There are quite a few other RV sites in Mulege. Unfortunately, it is WAY to soon after a couple bottles of Red Truck to remember them clearly, but I will try...

- Cuesta Real east of Marybell's (towards the sea)..a motel and cafe with RV hookups...right on the river. A nice place with good food and people.

- The Serinadad Resort (I have zero experience with the RV pads, but know Don has some)

- Ray's in the valley (truly great, but a long drive from the water for your boat)

- north side of the river has some RV camps (the road may be still a mess, though)

- there are more somewhere.

- Conception Bay south of town has oddles and oddles of camping. You can launch your Trophy almost anywhere. A couple of the camping beaches have cafes.

- Mulege could use some money. Talk to anyone and make an offer.

- NOTE: Too bad about that oil/dirt at Marybelle's. I'll mention it the next time I pass by. Hopefully they can fix the problem.

What about don chano's on the north side of the river?...that's a nice spot....and we heard that pancho villa's restaurant, also on the north side, was gonna put a few nice spots in...it's really nice and quiet over there and close to the water, AND some good eats at pancho's.

I've been stopping at the Serinadad Resort the last few times when just passing through Mulege. Pretty typical RV spots: full hookups, gravel/concrete pads, good restaurant, quiet, river access, fast WiFi in the restuarant/hotel area, hot water heater for the showers/bathroom building somewhat iffy. Last February it was 230 MN. I'd put it above Villa Maria's and the Orchard. Have stayed at all three at least 5 times each over the years. If not just passing through and spending a few days, I always go to one of the beaches in the Bay.

I didn't see any RV spots in the Orchards last Jan/Dec but admittedly I wasn't looking, the devastation kinda grabs your attention.
Maria Isabellas is OK but yes the dirt sucks and I'm looking for a more "scenic" location. North side of the river is probably not an option with a 27' boat trailer, don't think I can get through town to easily.
Pomp I would be very interested in your suggestions for the bay especially with the beaches you think I could launch from.

maria issabell's has gone waaaaaay downhill since hurricane john a couple years ago...it's just about deserted now...when we stayed there a couple years ago, there was no hot water and the mud sticks to everything like glue...needs to have the entire facility topcoursed with gravel before anyone should stay there..

castaway, here's what I would suggest for the bay with a large boat to launch. First, you could launch it in Muluge at high tide and then anchor it out in the bay..at whatever beach you want to stay at..of which there are about a dozen.

In order as you go south from Mulege a few miles you will find these beachfront campsites:

1. Playa Naranjos (a couple miles of dirt road, but not bad) launching for your big boat. I have no experience with the place, save visiting some amigos in a house and a beach palapa.
2. Santispac ..lots of camping and a cafe..plus a mediocre launching spot at high tide. Good anchorage, but a small skiff is needed or a long wade. Gradual slope.
3. Burros ..same thing as Santispac..with cafe, too. Gradual slope to beach.
4. Coyote...good camp beach. We launched a 31' Bertram twin diesel off the beach at high tide for many years. Good slope.
5. Playas Buenaventura, Requeson, Perla, Armenta, etc are all too far south and all spare PB are gradual sloping.


Note: One thing you should know about anchoring in the Bay. For any good fishing..emphasis on GOOD...you will have anywhere from 20 to 40 round-trip miles of dead water (in the Bay) to reach the closest good fishing outside the Bay. I am assuming you will not want to waste that amount of fuel. 5-10 gallons depending on your burn rate. Adds up rather quickly on the fuel bill.

I think you would enjoy Coyote Bay. ;) It's the best beach in the bay by far.:rolleyes:

they have a ramp now launch anytime
and a marina (leave the boat in)
palapas
dump site
and
its on the bay

gas is 10 miles north

Sept 14th - I've been in Mulege all of 7 hours.
Orchard RV is not really open. I pulled in to ck on Tony's house ( all ok!) There has been no clean up and seems most houses are closed ( off season)

South of town on the river is Jungle Jims, then Cuesta Real, the another whose name I forgot. I'm at Cuesta Real, food is great, Pepe and Sanda the owners are instant friends, pool, easy rv access, boat ramp with in 50 yards ( small boat), no nose from highway, follow river road to town, price is right and did I say POOL! There are about 6 rv spaces open and roughly 12 rooms. I will stay here and explore the area. and Mulege is sweet!

Cuesta Real is a great place. I have two friends who are not coming back this year and they left their nice two bedroom trailer at Cuesta and are looking for a buyer.

They made improvements like a block storage house, concrete patio, and landscaping. The rent includes use of the pool, showers, water, electricity, internet, etc (I think this all accurate, if any of it is incorrect I apologize). The neighbors are fun and work well together.

I believe they would take 10,000 in a trouble free transaction. The rent for Cuesta is around 2,000 a year to cover the amenities.

Anyway, if anybody is interested U2U me for more details.

willy...believe it or not, the orchard HAS been cleaned up!...you should have seen it after the storm...cuesta is nice now that they've cleaned it up...when we got there last september the entire river road was gone...be sure and stop at jungla jims and say hi for mike and roz

Thanks again for the info, I did forget to mention we have been going to Mulege for about 10 years now so we are real familiar with the area and the fishing spots. We have never camped on any of the beaches in the bay thats primarily why I was asking, like I said I want t oupgrade the view. Pomp thanks for the rundown on the beaches we will definitley check them out, and Bob naranjos sounds like a good place to start. If we run into you guys when we get there I'll be buying you some beers and swapping fishing stories.
