Wow this is a $62.00 return from an airline ticket price, is it hard to get the money returned?
MEXICO TOURISM TAX
If you fall into one of the following categories, and if your itinerary involves travel between the U.S. and Mexico, you may be entitled to a refund
of the Mexico Tourism Tax (approximately $22, fluctuates with the exchange rate) and/or the Mexico Airport Use Tax of approximately $40 (fluctuates
with the exchange rate) included in the price of your ticket:
Mexican passport holders
legal residents of Mexico, regardless of nationality (holding form FM2 or FM3)
infants under the age of two
passengers who will remain in Mexico for fewer than 24 hours
diplomats
If you believe you are entitled to a refund of one or both taxes, please present your documentation to a Customer Service Agent when you check in at
the airport. The Customer Service Agent will initiate a refund request for you. Or, you may mail or fax copies of the documents, along with your
ticket number or confirmation number to:

i think last year
susan just told the ticket agent
at the airport and
they credited the ticket
we did buy the ticket on the internet the day before
and paid all the fees first
there is no way to by-pass that
she checked out with the IMN in loreto
and drove back
she checked in at santa rosalia
and they back dated the return 2 days

My husband is a retired (2008) airline employee so for the last 27 years we have flown in and out of several countries. Since we do not buy airline
tickets we have always had to pay our taxes when departing from the county we were visiting. There is always two taxes...a departure tax and the
airport tax. These taxes are normally included in the ticket when purchased by a passenger.
We have had FM-3's since 2006. The very first time we departed from SJD with our FM-3's we asked the airline ticket agent, who knows us by face, what
taxes will we would owe each time we departed Mexico. She told us "as FM holders you will pay the same tax any Mexican citizen is required to pay
which is only the airport tax...no departure tax just the airport tax." I explained to her one of our American friends that has her Mexican
citizenship told us "you do not have to pay any taxes because of your FM-3". The ticket agent smiled and said "I am a Mexican citizen and I work for
the airline, like you I do not buy tickets. but trust me when I get on an airplane I have to pay the airport tax....your friend is incorrect." Again
this is when departing from Mexico. I would assume the airport tax would apply when flying inside the country but I really don't know.
What we have learned is the airport tax is different in each airport. Example Cozumel is about $10 USD cheaper. Coming out of SJD this past August
the airport tax was about $34 USD per person. If we didn't have our FM-3 we would have had to pay about $40 USD more per person for the departure

Is your post a copy of a document from Alaska Airlines? Or where else did the info come from? I have never had a problem getting back the tourist tax
by showing my FM3 at the airport, but I never heard of a refund for the airport tax...I thought everyone paid this. This is great if we can get these

This topic always reminds me of way back when. There was no tourism tax, so to speak. We were leaving Acapulco in the early 80's. they had a departure
tax that was only payable in cash. Actually had a gate where you had to pay before getting into the departure area. Several young gringos were bumming
money because they had blown their wad while on vacation and couldn't afford to pay to get through.
