FM-3 Photo Requirements

LaRibereņa - 9-24-2010 at 04:00 PM

I thought we'd have our FM-3 photos taken in the US before we come down. Does anyone have the specs needed? Color or b/w? Size? Front/side? Thanks.

schwlind - 9-24-2010 at 06:08 PM

White background, no instant photos, with a matt finish, size 2.3 x 3 centimeters. 5 front and 5 right profile (no earrings, no hair on face, no glasses, and in profile must show the right ear)

Edited for additional info:

We took our own photos... with the right program you can size them as you wish. Color or black and white doesn't seem to be a problem... We originally submitted photos to our Immigration person in Ensenada... we were smiling... our person said "no smiles"....
So we look like convicts in our photos! Yuck! Immigration did accept the second... no smiles... photos... and got my FM last Monday.

I recommend that you have them taken here in Baja after you arrive. The requirements seem to change from week to week and office to office. I had mine done two weeks ago in Cabo San Lucas and they required 3 frontal, 2 right side, color, white background. But the size is "infantil" size which is different (smaller) than US passport size. I doubt anyone in the US will know what you are talking about.

I wore my glasses and there was no problem. I was told if the photos were not exactly right, you had to start the process all over again, paying a second application fee!

Yeah....oxxo's right. They're real picky about the fotos etc. Even an undotted I will stop the process.
Just go to a studio down here. They know what's required.

"no facial hair"? Wow! I haven't seen my face in 20 years.

I have bearded friends who have gone through the entire process without a problem. I don't think it's an issue.

Mi migra insisted on photos from any known local studio.

Just did it in Loreto...color, white background, no smiles, no earrings, hair off face and behind the ears! they look a lot like mug shots. I accidently dropped the packet on the street. The good news is someone found it...the bad news is someone recognized me in the photo!

FM3

Hooker33 - 9-25-2010 at 06:03 AM

Sergio in Cabo Paperworks gave us a quote of $634 USD to renew our FM3's (2). Does that seem reasonable? If not, is there a more reasonable provider of that service in the Los Cabos area?

requirement applies to having head your hai pulled back and not covering any part of your face. no bangs for women, etc.

Udo - 9-25-2010 at 09:25 AM

Thanks for the explanation, Bob. There is a difference between no "Facial Hair" and no "Hair on the Face".

karenintx - 9-25-2010 at 11:52 AM

Took photos for the new FM-3 card around May 25th in CSL.

Color photo with a big smile and I have bangs...had to remove my earrings and necklace. I would like to use this "pic" for my US drivers license...best one I have ever taken!

I just ask before having the photo taken if I could smile with the new FM requirements and the man said "si". Hubby didn't ask and he looks like a jail bird.

Way too expensive. My guy in San Lucas charges US$99 service charge plus 1400 pesos for the FM3 and the CURP is no charge. That's about US$220 each for everything. Send me a PM if interested.

Hola oxxo, my attornye charged me $ 100.00 plus the la migra fees in 2006. he used to work or immigration before and knew everybody in the office in cabo.

we initially did the paperwork in san jose at the burger king, went to the
scotia bank across the way and i paid and got a receipt and then i followed him to the immigration ffice in cabo and walked out with my fm3 within 30 minutes.

pm me and i'll give you his phone number.

slam dunk !!!!

Observe the process. Then next year do it yourself. Many do. Immigration is used to it. They will help you through it, but forget that if you are late or don't have everything you need.
