Spanish Language

I wasn’t always married. I was single when I first started to come down here to Baja Sur on fishing vacations. So when I wasn’t out on a cruiser or panga I would often find some other way to recreate.

We met on the beach and I’ll never, ever forget the occasion. Her name was Rosa and she lit up my life the very first instant I saw her. No typical Mexican señorita, she was tall and willowy, taller than me actually. That didn’t seem to put her off and we became very close real fast. She had trouble with my name, George, cause it’s not a sound that is natural in Spanish.

I was in love and it didn’t matter to me about my name, the language; we were speaking the language of love, touching, petting, discovering each other one little bit at a time. I was in heaven.

After the trip when I met her, I couldn’t wait til the next trip and I had more and better reasons than just fishing when I planned my next flight or drive down this way. When she wrote to me she called me her little Chilito and I wasn’t offended a bit because it didn’t bother me that she was two inches taller than me. In fact I loved the name, loved to hear her smile and laugh and say it.

It was many years later that I began to get curious about the name and when I asked Mexicans about it they would smile and laugh and giggle ---- a little too much I thought.

My Spanish is a lot better now but I’m still uncertain about that name.

Did you know that Chilito means "little penis" in a dialect of Spanish

This may work. It may not. I will try. It is Sunday, there is nothing on TV, my wife is at a luncheon, it is overcast, windy.
