Here in Loreto, Lynn Hamman writes cable news distributed by e-mail, local news of relevance. A terrific service. I am passing a note by Randy
Hamman with fishing news of Loreto/Lopez:
The fishing in Loreto is still going off with a vengeance. Nice size Dorado are being
caught right off the north end of Isla Coronado. Paulette returned with limits to feed 4 families. She stated the sizes were in the 20-30# range and
the more dead the bait were the better the bite was. Her panga returned to the marina at 11:30. Jamie Cayuela returned with 4 fisherman and 8 Dorado
(the limit) with big smiles on their faces. The past storm brought a lot of floating debris in the current areas and is housing the Dorado for easy
catching. I'm going out with Kent Williams today, hopefully Kent will be able to find the fish.
The fishing is going off over in the Lopez Matoes area also, with an abundance of Wahoo and Tuna being taken by most every one brave enough to trailer
their boat over there. The Wahoo king, "Bill Erhardt (Soledad)" in his new Bluewater 23T, had a very successful bite on Friday's trip along with Al
Jordan and Nick Lampros in Sea Note.
After Barry Wilkerson and Steve McGavern got into the big Tuna (130#) out of San Jose del Cabo a week or so past, they decided to return this week to
San Jose in Steve's new Grady White for some more punishment action. This time with some new fighting belts to save the back.
Bait is easy to come by at the marina as long as you have the money to buy it. Right now most of the bait doesn't live long in tank with the warm
waters, around 88 degrees. This is why it's nice to save the left over bait in the freezer until your next trip out. Small squid is available at
some of the larger markets (Not in Loreto) in the fish section. Squid is the candy bait for a good Dorado bite.
Loreto is definitely the place to be right now. The town is very peaceful with the weather starting to cool off a bit into the low 90's. Some new
restaurants have opened with some great presentations at reasonable prices, about time!
As I went to CD Constitution on Thursday, I noticed a new very large building being constructed on the North end of town. I thought it was going to
be a new super market but Val Wilkerson said it was going to be a new Walmart. How about that .... a Walmart within 100 miles of Loreto!
All you people up in the states, hope all is well, because it's great down here.
