willyAirstream, Thanks for all the pictures.

mulegemichael - 9-27-2010 at 07:07 AM

we have heard from many sources that the existence of these jellyfish in the river are an indicator of the "health" of the river...hmmmm....seems difficult to have a "healthy" river when a sewage outfall dumps directly in to it 24/7...

Cypress - 9-27-2010 at 07:43 AM

The "enriched" water provides extra nutrients for the jellyfish to "bloom". The river is carrying an extra load of nutrients due to the sewage. Is that healthy? :?:

That is beautiful! Enjoying following your trip.

Great photo!

Wow.....a great shot. I didnt know there were blue jellyfish in Baja :wow:

As far as the water spiked with sewage is good for aquatic life....one needs to go back for some basic science classes. If you think that sewage is only basic human waste (which is really bad itself)....what about everything else that is dumped in that drain (kitchen sink..bathroom sink...toilet). Meds. Dog poop. .....well...its too gross for me to list the hundreds of contaminates. Enjoy the fish dinner that you just caught out of there...

That's not the good natured Yankee Irishman I remember. What happened to you that put you in a phony Viking hat (Viking helmuts didn't have horns) with a beard and glasses and turned you into a SF Nomad board muddler? You were a regular guy as I remember. Maybe I'll dig up some of your old posts just to prove it

castaway$ - 9-27-2010 at 11:52 AM

Been to Mulege many times wit th e boat and have never seen those.

mulegemichael - 9-27-2010 at 12:51 PM

we've actually seen dozens and dozens of them up and down the river at times....and....while we do fish in the river A LOT, we always catch and release...can't quite get past all those "brown trout" swimming around..

Muddler? Try "forum conservationist". mulegemichael made a statement on river pollution....I added to that statement....that's not being a "Muddler". Perhaps you can explain to me what bothered you about my statement.....we can work it out if your not out here calling me names like "Muddler".

Oh...The horned ones were ceremonial, a practical one was hemispherical with a nose guard. That is what any decent historian will tell you.

"phony Viking hat'.....it is not. When I bought that from a fine street vender in Cabos San Lucus by the waterfront....I was told it was an original antique worn by the fifth King of the Hunns clan .

Bring up my past statements? Yankeeirishman's? Please do....maybe some folks here could use a dose of reality.

Dying to hear your response

As I remember you were a regular guy, good natured and fun loving. A common sense guy. I was just hoping that guy was back. Go easy. There's lots of edgy folks around now for some reason.

Noted. Will take it down a notch......only if you publicly say you love my Viking hat".... :P

I didn't know you bought the hat in Cabo. Now that changes everything.

toneart - 9-27-2010 at 03:37 PM

I can't really speak for Osprey, but I think he is joking....I think.:)

I usually put on my tin foil hat when I want a Serious Detector. Even though I look silly in it, and people laugh, it is usually a facilitating antenna for Truth, Justice and The American Way.

However, I have this one waffle hedge: you got yours in Cabo. You got yours in CABO???? All bets are off!:lol::lol:

Is it safe to say that the Rio Mullege is heavily polluted? It only gets "flushed" when a hurricane comes. And that's not something to wish for.

mulegemichael - 9-27-2010 at 04:29 PM

cypress....it is VERY safe to say rio mulege is polluted...however, we do not want a "flushing" like julio brought us...or jimena..they both just about "flushed" us down the proverbial toilet.

toneart - 9-27-2010 at 04:59 PM

Yes, it is polluted because of leaching septic systems, mostly. However, the marine life seem to thrive in it and it is a fantastic bird sanctuary. The river is brackish. Besides the fresh water coming in from underground springs to the north, the tide washes in and out from the Sea of Cortez. The SOC is about a mile from town and those of us who have houses along the river are even closer. Mine is about 1/2 mile from The SOC.

I wouldn't feel safe eating fish caught in the river. Some do, however.

I kayak up and down the river, but if I should roll I keep my mouth tightly closed.:o:o

Being the founder of the Brown Trout Surfing Club, I had to cancel this year's tournament due to no hurricane. You see, you have just one chance to wait for the surge as it passes under the bridge and....oh, never mind!:barf:

We're about 25 miles south of San Felipe and they show up around May/June. Their numbers are large and are all about the same size. You can even pick them up with your bare hands.
