Cabo restaurant recommendation

My nephew from NYC is going to Cabo on his honeymoon next week. They'll be staying at the Sheraton Hacienda Del Mar.

He asked me for a restaurant recommendation. I used to go there quite a bit in the late 80s, and 90s and back then Mi Casa was a place I liked. Is that still popular?

He's a Wall Streeter on his honeymoon so the sky is the limit, but I'd like to point him towards a good Mexican menu.

Micasa is still my favorite place to eat in Cabo. The food is always great has been for many years.

Miguellocos Restaurant is very good. It's at Km 1 across from the jardin off the main blvd. The prices are great and the food is excellent.

Another vote for Micasa (last visit was over 10 years ago though).

When we were there they had a singer/guitarist that was really entertaining doing requests that got crazier as the margaritas flowed.

He even sang New York/New York to wild applause.

A cab ride away, consider Palmilla. The setting and view from their outside dining area is stunning. Quite exclusive and private. And it takes someone with a "sky's the limit" budget to enjoy this!

I love Pancho's in Cabo for a good meal and a good time.

Puerta Vieja has a gorgous view of "El Arco" with good food and wine.
Cascadas on Saturday nights has a "muy rico" beef wellington.

Teauila Restaurant in San Jose...will need RSVP. Has been a while since we ate there, maybe Baja Judy would be more up to date on this one.

Since we live in Cabo 8 - 9 months a year...

Mi Casa is not the place it use to be.

How long ago did Cascadas have a Friday night buffet/Mexican show? As many times as we walk that beach at night we have not seen this.

In the Marina there are tons of "touristy" places. High prices...sometimes good, sometimes "just OK".

Best place is "Campastre" up by the Delegation/Red Cross. However it is one of those place a local needs to drive you to...little hard to find. The hubby and I were talking with a local businessman when we mentioned "Campastre" he smiled and said to his Mexican friends "they really do know where to eat in this town"...then he turned us onto "El Torro" for the best fish tacos. Also close to the Red Cross.

Also I would suggest they go for a sunset cruise on the "Tropicat Wine and Jazz" catamaran. Take a camera and they will not be disappointed.

Dang, I was going to cut back on my eating while down in Cabo but now you have all got me into a fine mess, as I will now have to try all of these while down there for 8 days,LOL!! Seems like a lot of good choices here for a honeymoon or celebrating anniverseries of any kind. As a full time resident, the following is my opinion only, others may disagree.

I cannot recommend either Mi Casa, Ediths, or Golondrina. Very expensive prices for mediocre food.

The best place, hands down, for regional Mexican food is La Fonda. Moderately priced, inventive menu, excellent service.

I ate at Gardenias once, that was enough for me! I saw the waitress take bowls of salsa from our table when we were finished and pour them into another set of bowls, using her finger as a scoop, and take it to a table of new victims.

The Sunday buffet at the Cabo del Sol Golf Clubhouse is a must. 1/4 mile walk from the Sheraton. All you can eat langostinos, bottomless champagne, beautiful surroundings, and live jazz by my friends, the Smooth Brothers.

Pitahayas Restaurant at the Sheraton is expensive but worth it.

For the most part, I stay away from the restaurants in the Cabo marina district.

San Jose also has good restaurants and is more laid back than San Lucas. Chief among them are El Chilar, Casiano's (he used to be the chef at Las Ventanas), and Cynthia's Fresh. FWIW, Tequila Restaurant is owned by the same people who operate Salsitas in the Art District.

There is no shortage of good places to eat in Los Cabos, and I have even touched on our favorite places where you can eat for under $5.....for two.

The Sheraton is our favorite local resort. They will enjoy it there.

While honeymooners may not have any interest in making the trip, I have gone to La Paz to eat at Jesse's. It has just about anything in Cabo beat hands down.

That said, Pitahayas is right at the Sheraton resort, and is excellent. I don't think anyone mentioned La Fonda. It is somewhat out of the way, but is definitely alta cucina.

Cabo Magic listed so many places. They range from mediocre to excellent. Same with ambiance. As you mentioned that money wouldn't appear to be an issue, consider that a place like Carnitas Michoacan as well as others uses resin furniture. But has great food.

As for Mi Casa, the owner, Gunther Richter has been just about the biggest independent success in Cabo. Mi Casa has vastly expanded over the years. While there was a period when the food really tanked, they are doing a better job now. Richter owns several other restaurants in the area. One of which I do recommend. Peac-cks. Located by the driveway to the ME (Melia) on Medano Beach. It was his very first. And it is still great.

Years ago Emilios was a good Italian restaurant. It was outdoors adjacent to a hotel along the corridor to San Jose as I recall. Having not been mentioned by the residents it must have fallen out of favor or worse.

"Stop Light" is no longer in business. Lots of places come and go...as discussed in other posts Cabo is a difficult places to own a restaurant.

The only one I can think of that fits that description was DeGorgios which has been closed for several years.
