E.D.R.Rick - 9-30-2010 at 10:40 AM

Shrimp season started Sept. 18th I believe. From what I have heard it looks to be a real good season. Shrimp coming in large and tasty.
San Felipe Shrimp Fest is Nov. 5,6,7

Bacon wrapped shrimp or camarron in agua chile....yummmm

Donjulio - 9-30-2010 at 08:12 PM

Started the 18th but is going to be expensive this year. The jumbos came in the first day at 105 pesos per kilo right off the boat to a reseller. Now they are up to 140 per kilo. He says they expect them to be at 220 per kilo by December. Good news is that they are plentiful this year.

BTW- if you are going to buy, wait until the pangas come in. Usually part of the crews pay is shrimp and they will sell it cheaper than you can buy it off the street.

Seriously?! I been buying shrimp there every year ...and didnt know that trick. Thanks!

Hey...are you the owner Donjulio Hotel in SF?

Bajajorge - 10-1-2010 at 09:00 AM

The season has been going for about 2-3 weeks. But I hear prices are much steeper than in years past. They're all trying to make up for what they're losing elsewhere in the down economy.

Might be due to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico? Seafood buyers are leery about products from the Gulf of Mexico due to possible contamination.

Well, that's a bit more than we've paid in the past, but so is the gas for the pangas, etc. Still it is much cheaper than here is the US and they are so fresh and tasty. We are going down later this month and I can't wait to grill up some shrimp!!!

the MX law of supply and demand; when things are tough, just raise your prices:?:

Cypress - 10-2-2010 at 01:50 PM

Shrimp, fish, scallops, tamales, empanatas, and an assortment of all sorts of goodies. Baja has lots of good things to offer.. Makes me hungry.

Donjulio - 10-2-2010 at 04:44 PM

Empanadas stuffed with cream cheese, jalapeno and shrimp. Now that is good eating!

desertcpl - 10-2-2010 at 05:37 PM

cant wait,, we have been to the shrimp festival before and it was alot of fun,, dont know yet if we can make it or not, but will try

BajaWarrior - 10-2-2010 at 06:40 PM

The Malecon was thick with shrimp vendors last weekend. $15 per kilo was about the going rate.

nbacc - 10-2-2010 at 09:20 PM

I cannot wait to get there.....no elect in my house either. Promised three years ago!!! but I love the shrimp. I am even willing to pay a bit more for it. Hey, I am paying more for things here in the USA so what is new?!!
