"Perro perdido" RECOMPENSA

Bummer Willy. I've lost and then found two dogs. I know the feeling. Keep looking.

David K - 10-2-2010 at 10:36 AM

Seriously, get off the computer and follow his tracks/ direction (if known). Never leave a dog off a leash when you take him to a strange place... Sorry to sound harsh, but we have heard of so many dogs that run away in Baja... Pickles, Inky, etc. Leave out food and water by your trailer if he returns while you are searching.

mcfez - 10-2-2010 at 01:17 PM

I would hire 4-5 people. Hand a picture. Have them look for a few days. Cost a few hundred...but you'll get lot of ground covered.

DavidK said to follow the tracks. Do that now! Smart thinking.

Cypress - 10-2-2010 at 01:20 PM

Hope you find your your K-9 buddy.:)

toneart - 10-2-2010 at 02:37 PM

Oh no, Richard! Re post that picture of him. He looks exactly like my Paco.

I am posting Paco's photo. This is what people will be looking for.

Please let us know when you find him. Good Luck!

bajajudy - 10-2-2010 at 03:52 PM

Be sure to offer money in case someone took him for the reward.
He sure is a cutie. Hope he is back home with you real soon
Just got the Pony Express with your lost dog alert

willyAirstream - 10-2-2010 at 04:56 PM

Still no luck. He was walking at waters edge, so no tracks. He was with my other dog for awhile, but walking Moouse didn't help track him either. It is a very small village and I have flyers in the 2 stores and the tortilla shop and passed out a few. I think the whole village knows I'm looking for a lost dog. Locals have been very friendly. There is a reward and one guy said he would start looking and ask everyone he could, due to the reward. Things sure went downhill, once I left Mulege. sad

David K - 10-2-2010 at 04:59 PM

All Mexican towns have tons of loose dogs... he is probably playing with his new friends... I am wishing your luck well!

Los Barriles animal shelter

There are other local shelters in La Paz, etc.. Just google [name of town] + "animal shelter".

Hope your best friend finds you real soon,

Keep talking with everyone and have lots, and lots of posters for every pole, every wall, etc.,

You might try telling people that you will even pay a reward if they see your dog and take you to him. Because of his size, he may be SUPER friendly, but lots of people might be afraid to approach him.

Will be thinking about you and just hope to hear real soon that he is back safe and sound!

Hope you find your dog. That's a real downer for sure and I feel for you.

Dogs run with packs...ask around where the local packs go like to the garbage dump, local restaurants to beg etc. The idea of hiring a local is good and if they find him maybe have an agreement whereby he earns double the reward. Incentives work.

He sure is cute. Wishing you the best to find your buddy.

Offer a big enough reward so that if someone saw him and decided to keep him, it would be worth it to him to give Gunner back. Tell every kid you see too. They would be relentless in looking. Maybe they know something already and would be willing to report his whereabouts, for a reward.

Had you set up camp before he went to the beach and disappeared? If he isn't being kept, I would have thought that he would have returned before now. Do you have access to an ATV? Grab a sleeping bag and some food and cover a wide range. Visit ranches too. I understand there are two roads into El Cardonal; one is a dirt road, shorter, and the other is the paved highway. Cover every inch of those roads too.

I'm sure you have thought of all of this but I am trying to think what I would do in your circumstance. And I feel helpless way up here in Northern California.

Best of Luck, Richard!

Tony

Get the local kids to help you

slimshady - 10-3-2010 at 12:12 PM

Someone will take him in. Offer a reward and somebody will find him. Go as far as La Ribera in trying to find your dog.

monoloco - 10-3-2010 at 12:35 PM

Whenever I have lost a dog I have left an old shirt or something with my scent on it at the last place they were seen. Usually the dog will return to that spot and hang around.

willyAirstream - 10-3-2010 at 02:20 PM

I went to everyone I saw this morning and gave them a flyer. Last night at dusk a fisherman came by and said he saw a black dog with a harness, so that had to be Gunner. This morning a woman said she saw him on the beach and another said something about being with another negro dog in a casa. I've asked the police to look out for him to. I've gone 6 miles out on the paved road and both ends of the beach road. Walked the beach for 3miles in each direction and have been searching all day on the dirt bike. I have a feeling someone is sheltering him or kidnapping him. The town is maybe 300 population and everywhere I go people ask if he has been found. 2 separate local kids volunteered to look and i see them driving all around. I have offered 500 pesos, hope that is enough. But, if he is not back today, new flyers will say 1000 pesos. First flyers didn't mention amt, I just told people. Everyone has been extremely friendly and helpful, especially the fisherman.
Yes, we were camped when he got lost. He is stubborn and will follow anything for miles, but has always come back. He has not adapted to the heat very well, so that has me worried too.
Where is La Ribera? I have gone to the next village, both north and south. Printing more flyers and going back out.

mcfez - 10-3-2010 at 03:13 PM

Thanks for the update.
Being a major dog lover (we have 5).....I know how u feel.

Hope you hired out helpers to look 4 the animal.

Animal trails....my dogs will follow em if I aint watching them.

willyAirstream - 10-3-2010 at 06:59 PM

Bad news
A couple came by and said they found Gunner, They spoke no English. I could not tell if they said he was hit by a car or what. I asked that they take me to him. They drove me to the dump. At first I was relieved, as this dog was much bigger, Then I had to look closer, the body was extremely bloated and torn apart. Neutered , same coloring, scrap on leg, I'm 99% sure it is Gunner. It is dark, I will go again tomorrow to make double sure. What a horrible time.

monoloco - 10-3-2010 at 07:14 PM

My condolences, that's really sad.

longlegsinlapaz - 10-3-2010 at 07:14 PM

I hope for your sake that it's not Gunner....but if it does turn out to be him, at least you'll have closure rather than never knowing if he's still out there somewhere looking for you. Sorry!

Please don't let your other dog roam free in strange new areas!

sanquintinsince73 - 10-3-2010 at 07:26 PM

What can one say? Let's hope it's not him. Dog's are family.

baja-spirit - 10-3-2010 at 08:37 PM

DianaT - 10-3-2010 at 09:23 PM

Cannot tell you how sad this makes us---so very sad. And please be kind to yourself---no matter how much we try to protect our babies, be they human or fur babies, tragedy can and does strike.

Our thoughts are with you in dealing with this loss.

I would never try to speak for others, but this time I think all the other dog and cat lovers would agree---we just wish we could take away some of your pain.

And if you have not seen it before, your Gunner has joined so many of our fur babies at the Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Thanks DianaT ....

willyairstream, I was very sorry to read the final outcome of your serch for your best Pal. It is small condolence, but I am sure he had a wonderful life and was much loved. I hope his last days with you on the beach of Cardonal were happy and free even though I am sure the heat was getting to him as it surly does me. There is not much else we can ask for in this life.

DianaT, Me too, one of my favorite stories, thanks for bringing it back.

windgrrl - 10-5-2010 at 12:24 PM

Gunner will live forever in your heart. I hope you find a way to continue to enjoy your Baja journey.

toneart - 10-5-2010 at 03:43 PM

Oh no, Richard! I had so hoped he would show up back at your campsite. I feel like Gunner was my pal too.

Can you find that couple again with an interpreter? It would be good to get the straight story, if they know it.

I will be thinking of you and wish you healing, in time. Please stay in touch with us in the future. You have really become a friend to all of us.

Tony

LOST DOG IN SPA!
Black healthy looking dog is hanging around Buena Vista Hotel and Spa area. Can't tell if the dog is male or female. It is very scared and won't let anyone approach. It is medium to large size. Possibly ran during a thunder storm and can't find its way home. Do you know of anyone who has lost their dog? Please call Luisa 141.0292 or Andrea 141.0019.
Could it be him
