Mexicali, Mexico, - By a vote of 18-1 the state Congress of Baja California in Mexico approved a reform of the state constitution that defines
marriage exclusively as the union between one man and one woman.
Lawmakers said the measure was needed to prevent homosexual activists from imposing recognition of same-sex “marriage” on the state.
On Thursday, lawmakers approved a constitutional reform that recognizes marriage as the union between one man and one woman.
Juan Manuel Molina of the National Action Party said the reform is not based on intolerance but rather is intended “to establish that the union of man
and woman is the pillar of society and must not be altered by social experiments.”
Representative Jose Alfredo Ferreiro, who sponsored the measure, said it does not take away anyone’s rights but rather strengthens the concept of the
family.
