For most river crossings, the desviacions (detours) are paved. There were quite a few on this 10-week, 5,500 mile trip.
On longer stretches of roadway construction, desviaciones are graded dirt (such as between Cabo San Lucas and Todos Santos).
NOTE the damaged bridge sections that were removed as well as cracked column foundations from water/flood damage.
And, YES, if you must know, I'm an out-of-work civil engineer. Now accepting offers. Anywhere. But prefer Baja.
