From what I have read here:

Go south from Algodones. Get on the Mex. 2 to the toll road 'Libramente Mexicali' Mex. 2-D to Mex. 5.

The 'shortcut' through the delta farm towns is much slower, and earthquake damaged.

anyone...

Wouldnt be better to go 2-3 4-5? I am asking this NOT recommending due to lack of knowledge!

I live in Yuma and cross this way all the time.
When you cross the border at Algodones, go to the 2nd stop sign Ave B take a left go to top of hill take a right follow all the way to stop sign (Dead End) then take a left you will cross the bridge go 13 miles to Hwy 2 ,take Hwy 2 to Mexicali 27 miles to the toll road to San Felipe. Last time I took the toll road it was 16 peso for single axle. Will pay more if pulling trailer or driving a dually.

When you go 2-3-4-to 5 you drive thru alot of towns and farm land. Hard to pass the tractors sometimes.Lots of topos.

I like the farm route. Have not found it to be much longer and bypasses all the BS in Mexicali

Thanks David K and Bajaponderosa...that is the way we last went down...the cross over to the toll road DOES avoid MOST of Mexicali if I remember correctly

Dizzy

I drive this from Mesa, AZ every 2 weeks to San Felipe. I have gone every way possible. I will also turn you onto a few short cuts in AZ.

1. Take I 8 and exit at Araby Road. THere is a NEW 4 lane AZSR 195 that will take you right to San Luis and the border crossing. This route will take you about 20 minutes to get from I 8 to San Luis

Cons: You will have a Military Check Point just as you get past the toll both on 2d

It is a little out of the way, but I think you make up the time on the toll road.

Pros: It is fast and you don't have to deal with Mexicali

Going through Algodones is also nice, but you have to slow way down due to all of the little towns.

Have Fun

I have used the Araby exit..WAY faster to San Luis

Thanks Mike..thought Algodones was quicker to 2D and toll road to Mex 5?
