Hola, on october 17, after fishing for two days in san quintin, and hopefully, catching, and also after buying some oysters, i plan on going north to
either CAMALU OR PUNTA COLONET for either one or two days of surf fishing or hiring a panga if the price is low enough or if i can couple up with
another fisherman.
as was posted so many times on this board, i am one of those that drive to and from los barriles and do not take the time to stop and see other
destinations and am now taking the time to do so.
A...are there rooms available at each and does someone have contact numbers or email addresses ? or, can i sleep safely in my suv and are there any
bathroom / shower facilities ? i am willing to pay for useage
B...is the surf fishing better at one or the other and what fish are available ? surfperch, calico bass, corbina, white seabass, halibut, etc.
C...are the roads do-able for a small suv pulling a 5' X 8' utility trailer ?
D...are there any taquerias to buy meals or should i carry my own ?

Its a beautiful area.
Taquerias are in Camalu.
Don't camp in a remote spot. There have been problems. Stay at Shipwrecks inside the fence or at Quatro Casas for a minimal fee.
I drove my 12 foot utility trailer from QC to Shipwrecks.... slowly about 2 years ago. Dont know about current conditions.
I'm told Camalu has quite a tweeker population. Be careful there.

Well if you could afford a bit more time, I would go as far as
Bahia Asuncion and partake of the excellent near shore panga fishing as well as some great surf fishing. Then perhaps head nort to Camalu or San
Quintin for a day.
Check with Shari to see if the fishing is good at that time.

hola vacaenbaja, i thank you for your suggestion and i did give some thought to bajia asuncion but unfortunately this year, i am meeting my son in san
quintin and i really do not want to backtrack towards guerrero negro and ansuncion and will just head home after camalu or colonet.
however, when i return again in march, it is on my agenda as i won't be so hurried going to los barriles.

Contact Bajagringo, he knows many, many people in San Quintin and can probably give you better advice on where to stay and more importantly where to
get oysters at very reasonable prices.

stay at the hostel at cuatro casas. turn towards the ocean 100' north of the road to the observatory. richard is a cool guy who can probably hook you
up with a boat right there. tell him woody sent you.

Its the next point south of Colonet. Its a small point compared to Colonet, but its a cool area. You can drive North or south to some beaches. The
turn off is just about 10 miles North of Camalu. I believe there is even a sign.

Nice hotel on the point in Camalu called the Pirate Cove Hotel. Decent rooms, showers, and good restaraunt/bar. About $40.00 U.S./night. I've stayed
here several times. Spectacular views overlooking the ocean. Just turn toward the ocean at the only traffic light/Pemex station, and follow the dirt
road to the hotel (about 1 1/2 miles).
You probable can get information about fishing there since pangas launch just below using a steep dirt access to the water.
