What are reasonable liability limits to carry on a Mexican policy? Equal to US liability limits or lower due to the (lower/higher) cost of liability
settlements in Mexico?
Pretty much all of the discussions of Mexican insurance center around the cost and ease of getting the insured vehicle repaired. Not sure if I've
ever seen a thread that mentioned liability settlements.

There was in the past some rather weak $50,000
liability limits on some Mex Ins Policies. I believe
some of the 1 day policies have that.
I think it would be muy malo to come up short
on liability limits. But, Mex to my knowledge, does not
award large claims like the US. To me, I would
rather have more than less. the Ins I have
has $300,000. Overkill I'm sure

Meeting the minimum liability limits is a get out of jail card. Would love to hear from other Nomads regarding any accidents where they ended up
¨responsible¨for a greater amount. Just seems to me that no one is going to reach across the border. Just wondering if anyone has experience with
this.
I just bought a policy with $50,000 liability, $5,000 med pay, Collision with a $1,000 deductible, for 14 days costing me $138.

I agree that exceeding the $50,000 damage
would probably be rare. But I would guess there
are Gringos driving $50000 trucks or Motorhomes
in Baja. My Ins Co. the $300,000 is the standard
amount given. Other Co's let you bump up
the limits. To increase the limits is usually
not much. I may well be more conservative,
cautious than some. There are no gurantees,
but I would not drive in Mex with a bottom
limit liability policy which I MIGHT easily excceed,
to me that is foolish

I spent a bit of time digging around a bit on the various Mexican Insurance agencies websites. Most websites feature policy highlights and some
feature the complete policy.
Gathering and reviewing the small print helped to decide which provider would be meet our needs.

What a great question, I have always wondered also if I am overinsuring or not. I hope we get some feedback based on expierience, maybe from some of
the nomads that sell mex insurance?

I have no experience in "claims on Liability" in Baja. I live a moralistic life. I insure for the "worse case' situations. The increased cost is
extremely minimal for "what you get". As I've said before in past posts, if we all thought that if a loss wouldn't be over $100.00 we probalby
wouldn't carry any insurance. Everything is based on the "unknown". If you have nothing, but come to Baja to enjoy it's glorious culture &
weather is one thing. But if you should kill or serously injure someone, or heaven forbid, many people in one accident, I'd hope you would be
responsible for "others" and carry enough insurance to take care of them all. I'm a good driver, never having been in an accident and I'm 76 years
young. But in case I do, my 'moral' obligation would have been met with the $500,000.00 limit I carry on my policy while driving in Baja.

I'm interested in "adequately" insuring myself in case something does happen and I should be held accountable for financially righting my wrong at a
level that is (again) adequate to compensate those that I may have harmed.
I believe in being responsible but I don't believe in needlessly increasing the wealth of ANY insurance company.
Most insurance companies are more than happy to sell you more insurance than you need and they will have many examples of why you should buy all of
their products, after all they are a "for profit" business.
I don't carry $10,000,000 in auto insurance nob because it isn't necessary so it would really be nice to know what is adequate coverage in Mex based
on actual data so I can balance my concerns that I am covered at a responsible level and I'm not throwing money away to the benefit of the insurance
companies.
