I received news this morning of the passing of long time resident Stan Valentine. Stan was a permanent resident at Buenaventura and our next door
neighbor. Stan helped develope the resort and had lived there for at least 15 years.
If you ever met him he was hard to forget, and not because he was 6ft 10....he was one of the kindest and smartest persons I have ever met and was a
substitute grandfather to our now 16yr old daughter Monica....He will be missed more than I can express....It was a privlege to know him and an honor
to be his friend....viva con dios amigo....

I met Stan on my first trip to Baja many years ago. His casa on the beach had recently been completed. I was towing a pop up camper with my '79 Jeep
Cherokee in June and stopped at Buenaventura to camp. I didn't know anything about Baja and had already stopped in at several places along the bay
looking for a camping spot with beer and food when I came across Buenaventura. I walked in to the bar and saw a guy carrying a few cases of beer (good
sign #1) and asked who was the boss. "I am" he replied in English (good sign #2) (this was Mike George, the guy who built the houses, motel etc.) I
asked him where to camp and he directed me to the palapas on the beach in front of a couple of houses.
We set up camp and got in the water as it was hot as h3ll. After a while a big guy came over and introduced himself and asked if there was anything we
needed. We had been traveling in Baja for a few days and it was really nice to talk to someone in English. When I complained about the heat Stan
offered to run an extension cord out to our trailer so that we could run a fan. What a guy and a life saver for a young (back then) family of Baja
newbies.
I would stop in and say hi when I passed by but probably never told him how much his hospitality meant to me back then.
Vaya con Dios amigo, see you on the other side......dt
