Abacus in the Tianguis?

Today I was reminded of shopping in the weekend street market (tianguis) in Primo Tapia/Cantamar.

This was several years ago. The large, well-established produce stand on your left as you entered the market provided plastic laundry washtubs for you to place your selections.

The checkout area was a long saw-horse supported plywood affair with overhanging metal-scoop measuring scales and the cashiers would sort your purchase, weigh the individual components and tally up the total on a wooden abacus.
