Okey dokey - just try to hold things together there, eh?

Here in La Paz, 11:54AM we just felt a hard and long quake.

oldlady - 10-21-2010 at 11:03 AM

Didn't "feel" a thing up here, comitan, but happen to be outside for a moment and the water in the pool was it's own tsunami, more than I've ever seen down here.

Seems like things are shaking a bit down south. Thought when I sent the wife to La Paz, earthquakes would not be on my worry list. Oh well!

I'll bet the 6.9 just now got your attention! I even got an automated Tsunami alert- although it's hard to figure where it would go...

I didn't feel, see or sense a thing....animals sleeping on the floor in the same room as I was in didn't react in any way! But if oldlady's pool was making waves, then it musta been real!

No question that there's increased activity on the series of faults that head North to the San Andreas in California. Interestingly, today was what has been billed as the Great Shakeout. It's designed to raise awareness and hopefully encourage people to prepare. In my town, we received what could best be described as a reverse 911 call from the emergency people ass a drill.

Caught Lucy Jones, of CalTech on the radio. She said that people should be prepared for a rupture of 400 miles on the San Andreas, which would potentially subject at least 5 million people to intense shaking. For comparison, it would be ten times the number who experienced major shaking in the Northridge quake.

She stressed that the number one preparedness item was to have water on hand. Officials expect water shortages to be the biggest challenge after fire.

COSTCO sells (on-line) 5 gal buckets of emergency food (275 meals per bucket).

Item # 104893

Normally $89.90 each, but with sale now they are $74.99 w/ free S&H until Nov. 7, 2010.

We keep our pool clean and full, and have 55 gals of purified water on hand stored in the corner of the garage all the time.

CA & Baja ARE major earthquake areas, so makes sense to us.

Hmmmm.... earthquake food in a bucket~~ sounds pretty grim. What exactly is in that bucket?

longlegsinlapaz - 10-21-2010 at 06:33 PM

I sincerely doubt it'd be anything you might find on Jesse's menu! ;)

Heh----------it's an "emergency" bucket!!!!! not haut cuisine.

I am interested in staying alive without losing all my carefully nurtured overweight.

Emergency or no-- I want to know what's in the bucket before I dig in!

Barry A. - 10-21-2010 at 10:44 PM

This perhaps you have never been truly faced with an emergency, Paula. :light:
