Hey all,
Does anyone know if there is a good spot to stay in an RV in Guerrero Negro, or if not another cool spot nearby?

The Mallirimo Motel has lots of RV spots, hot showers and the best restaurant in town. We have stayed in our RV and in the motel many times.....dt

Be sure to have their scallops at the Mallarimo.

We also like the Palapa RV park just north of town.
The showers were clean and hot.
The restaurant was pretty good but a little pricey.
And lots of room for the dogs to run.

Much better if you have an aversion to "parking lot" camping.

If you want to park in a cool spot and not in a parking lot type place, you can go to the old lighthouse...the locals call it la Isla...turn right after the bank at the end of town and go all the way to the end...awesome bird watching on the way out there...about 10 minutes. There is neat stuff to watch, fishing pangas going out, fishing off the pier etc.

Know what you mean about "parking lot" camping because that is what the Malarrimo is, but it does put you in town where you can walk to some other places.

I know the food at Malarrimo is the favorite of many, but we find it overpriced, and things like their salsa quite gringofied. However, thier coffee is good. But since so many like the food there, it is worth a try.

If you are at the Malarrimo and you want some good fish tacos, walk down the street to the "roach coach"----very good, very clean.

It is still there--it is the parking lot that surrounds the restaurant. There are hook-ups, and places strictly for RVs, but it is "parking lot" camping. But a lot of people like it.

across the street from Malarrimo is a really neat, chic little cafe with wonderful coffee choices and pastries and breakfast stuff...also my breakfat choice is the 30 peso breaky at Puerto Viejo I think it's called...nice place, OK coffee and great huevos rancheros o mexicanas...it is a couple blocks south of Malarrimo ...past Caracoles too.

I had an excellent beef torta too - a tiny place just off the main drag - $1.50 or something. You can find excellent food in Guerrero Negro - and the search is half the fun. There's a large grocery store close to Malarrimo's for fresh fruit, salsa, tortillas.
If you want a bit of an adventure, and depending on how large your RV is, take the road at Rosarito (no. of GN) that goes southeast (that starts from the town - not the road that goes to the mision), and you'll find some great flat areas to camp, as well as awesome cardon forests, wild horses. We got lost, thought we were on our way to la mision, got as far as the San Javier river (which was flowing about 6 in. deep and 20 yards wide - decided not to try and cross it by car) and spent the night there - great camp site.

Not wearing my GPS hat right now. But, doesn't the main drag run East-West? That would make South of Malarrimo the salt flats, no? Puerto Viejo Is toward Mex 1 from the two places you mentioned. As as for breakfast, we've enjoyed eating at Nautilus in the Plaza Caracoles.

Is La Isla a campground or just a place where people pull over? That sounds like an interesting option.

GN is situated at the end of a long day's drive whether we're going North or South and after 12-14 hrs on the road, Malarrimo's parking-lot type park with level spots and hot showers is usually just fine for the night. But someday we may arrive in town with some time to spare and Malarrimo can fill to capacity in the winter with caravans so a back-up spot would be nice to have.

We still like San Remedio for dinner and have had good breakfast there.

WE drove all over looking for San Remedios a few weeks ago, as we've been wanting t try it. So just where IS it from Malarrimo?? We've seen it in past trips, but for various reasons haven't tried it yet. If we make a trip north in a few weeks I sure hope to go there!

Did San Remedio re-open. It closed a long time ago under very unfortunate circumstances

Unfortunate circumstances is a nice way to put it.

Last time we looked it was still closed and we talked to one of the ex waiters who was working at the grocery store. But we did not check the last few times we have been through. It sure was a good place to eat!

Oladulce...La Isla is just a cool spot at the end...used to be an island but a road was built out to it and it was used as a loading dock for salt many years ago...there is a lighthouse there too...nice flat spot to park...quiet and beautiful.

Santa Remedio is open and run by the original manager...turn right coming into town just before the big supermarket Tiangis and go a couple blocks...there is a big sign on the main street.

We have always liked to camp on the beach an El Tomatal just a little north of GN. Lovely beach and almost always deserted. The turn off is right at the military checkpoint.

The last time we ate at San Remedio was in July- don't know if that's "recent" or ancient history.I thank DianaT for this recommendation (from last year I think). It's a neat little place and nice to do something besides Malarrimo every single time. I hope they got the bugs worked out.

Paula, go 4 or 5 blocks past Malarrimo to a stop sign with "El Moro hotel" on the right hand corner. Turn Right, and go up another 2 or 3 blocks and the restaurant is on the left side with good signage. Save room for flan- it's very good!

The snake was a garden visitor in early summer. Wish the pic was clearer but I've had a heck of a time with avatar and photo attempts recently. The photos look good in iphoto or Photoshop but become blurry when transferred to Photobucket or Flicker, then look really crappy by the time they get to Nomad. Don't know what I'm doing differently.

Thank you for the directions, Oladulce. We had been looking just behind Malarrimo, where we invariably eat in GN. Much as we like it, change is good too.

In case anyone wants to camp at El Faro or La Isla, here are a few photos of the area...there are some cool things to explore like the little graveyard and ruins.

Re: Santo Remedio- We were also under the impression that it had closed, so we ate at Malarrimo a couple of weeks ago. One thing that has always bothered me about Malarrimo is that whether they are busy or empty, I always got the feeling of being rushed through my meal.

That said, despite our understanding that Santo Remedio was closed, I couldn't help but notice all their signs posted near and in town. So, after dinner at Malarrimo, we headed over to check it out. Geez. They were open. A missed opportunity this trip.
