Are all unguided boats restricted?
While camping is it ok to take a kayak out into the Lagoon?
Is this a real stupid idea? Have others done it?

Yes, no, yes/no (I'd love to too), yes. The salt works property is closed to the public after whale season. During whale season, no personal water
craft of any kind. Heard a story once about a couple who launched their kayaks into the lagoon, got caught, had the kayaks confiscated. The people
were detained in a room in GN awaiting further action but they escaped. You can kayak at Laguna Manuela, and the whales sometimes linger at the mouth
of the entrance of the laguna just off the point with the lighthouse. Saw them myself. There's a nice beach right under/next to the lighthouse from
which to launch and get out to the entrance of la laguna PDQ.

Wilderone is correct about the seriousness of flaunting the law during whale season in the lagoon. I was present for that bust...the guys were warned
not to take their kayaks and did it anyway...kayaks confiscated and detained.
It is neat to kayak out at El Faro or also laguna manuela is fun...but if you are kayaking around gray whales with calves be extremely cautious....do
not sneak up on them...make sure you make noise so they know you are approaching....gray whales are very protective of their babies so dont get too
close.
If you put in at El Faro, you can kayak over to the dunes and it's interesting to just walk over to the other side to beachcomb and paddling through
the wetlands is also great.
