Anyone living in or around La Paz with nothing to do this November 3rd might want to go to the malecon in our fair city. They are trying to get
mentioned in the Guinnesse Book of world records by making the biggest burrito ever.
The poster I have gives the impression that it will extend the entire lengh of the malecon from Marquez de Leon to the Molinito park in the Esterito,
about a mile, which seems suspect. A couple of days ago they had the names of participating restaurants taped on paper about every 20 yards between
the sidewalk from those two points.

El Burro Bicentennial
On the occasion of the celebration of our centennial we first have to break the Guinness Record in the history of Baja California Sur, in our capital,
La Paz "The land of 365 different sunsets." Our culture and tradition will be reflected in an incredible display of culinary skill.
This November 3 this year, 60 companies Restaurateurs will be in the male ... with our coastal city in a joint effort to develop the Machaca Burro
world's largest fish, 2,000 people will be available approximately 2 tons Green Chile & Onion White, 500 kilos of bean stew, an approximate amount
of shredded fish and a tortilla 2.500 meters long. The event will be held under the supervision of Ralph Hannah
Asuncion, Paraguay
This event is 1PM Wed. Nov.3rd.
This is an event not to be missed.

Today's the big day, folks. It's taking place right now on the Malecon, from end-to-end, a whole 2.5 kilometers long! Come on down. The tortilla is
being laid as I write this. They have a truck pulling a machine that's producing a band of a flour tortilla which is being laid atop a continuous
chain of tables. They're starting to cook the ingredients at various posts along the way.

While it in no way comes close to the culinary delight of our dinner the previous night at Tres Vergenes, I thought that the spirit of fun and
celebration on the Malecon, was a great event. Peope ate burrito once it was done and everyone thought it was great. If you were really
adventourous, you tried the different restaurants offerings to see who could do the best job with what they had to work with. The amount of food that
went into this thing is enormous but all the residents of the city who wanted to come and have a little fun and risk not finding a parking spot, had a
really good time and the atmosphere of fun and frivolity were present everywhere on the malecon.
In fact, when we were having dinner at El Rustico, we pretty much had the entire place to ourselves since the rest of the town was involved with the
fun. By the time we finished dinner, it was possible to drive back to the El Moro as long as you knew all the back streets.

The event was a success in that the burrito was recognized as a new world record by the folks at Guinness, which ocurred at around 8 p.m.
The tortilla was in place by around 1 p.m., and the time in-between was basically used to sell the gathered crowd food and refreshments. In that area,
it was also likely a success, as the day was warm and sunny.
The ingredients, besides the tortilla, were a layer of refried beans on which was placed a mixture of onions cooked with pepper and fish machaca. It
was then folded and we waited for the dude with the wheeled measuring stick to zip by on the back of a motorcycle to declare it official. They cut the
thing--which varied quite a bit in width--into sections measuring as little as 1.5 inches and as much as a foot or more (it depended on who you knew
as to how much you got).
There was a party atmosphere along the entire malecon, with several stands blaring out music, although it was more subdued at the Esterito end. Unlike
the Carnaval, when beer and licuor stands are everywhere, spirits didn't seem to play much of a part in this event. Empty water bottles were the bulk
of the trash at the end of the evening.
While I can't say much about the finished product, the event itself was a family-oriented interesting thing to participate in. I'm glad we were here
to witness and enjoy it.

I just can't seem to make that work--but neither can my teenage daughter, who's pretty sharp at such things, so I know the problem is in the program

In the interest of accuracy, I read in the paper yesterday that the new record our burrito set was 2.7 kilometers in length, not the 2.5 that was
