flying in/allowed food items...

I know in reality this is up to the particular inspector at each airport but I'd like to know, so I can argue if needed, just what foodstuffs are officially allowed to enter Mexico.
like chocolate, tea, etc??? my breakfast staple steel cut oats (imported from Ireland if that matters) what have you had passed through or taken away lately?

I've not ever had anything questioned at La Paz, nor my friends, one of whom flies back and forth frequently and brings all kinds of stuff from Trader Joes. I've seen people get off with all kinds of food also. One of the better ones was a couple of weeks ago; woman with two large boxes of Krispy Kremes.

I'm flying in to Loreto, and the migration folks, uh, don't like me much...

Hopefully Loreto is different. SJD has the international signs...red circle with a red slash draw through it...saying no meat, fish, cheese, milk. There maybe other items...I haven't looked at the sign lately.

If they do try to take something I have heard if you say "I would like a receipt so I can retrive this when I depart" it will sometimes get you through with just a warning. Lot of times "customs" will take things for personal reasons...say it ain't so!

A couple of years ago I got this information 1st handed from the inspector at the airport in Loreto.

As long as it is not for sale, you could bring anything in EXCEPT any beef product and products that have beef. I questioned him about pork, chicken, etc., etc., and he said OK as long as it contained no beef.

This of course is all assuming his wife did not give him a grocery list of items to bring home and something she wanted was what you are bringing in!

Howard, That "no beef" rule was into effect during the "mad cow" scare.
Never know what they let through at any particular day.
In the typical Mexican way they make up the rules as they go.:no: If you get an inspector who has just been peeed off by some gringo, he may confiscate even your wife.
However, if he got a little that morning, he might even give you something extra to take to your abode.:biggrin:

You mean that he will take my wife? If that's the case I think we will fly down this weekend and being the practical person that I am, I will buy her a one way ticket.
