This was an experiment. I have been reading about trying to shoot shots with the moon where the moon does not just look like a small bright spot.

So for this experiment, I focused and exposed directly on the moon and set the speed on the camera at about 500, used my 70-200 lens with one extender, zoomed in and shot in rapid fire. Next time, I will try even a faster speed --- but I cannot afford one of those really long lens.

Also, I understand more detail can be seen when it is not a full moon---we will see, and now I also need to get it all put together with a good scene. Just having fun practicing.

Thanks for looking

Thanks---and yes they are! Having fun trying different settings.

McFez----no photos of telescopes, please or I am sure I will start to think I need one.

Excellent shot Diana! You used a tripod correct?

No offence McFez but Diana don't buy dept store scopes they are more frustration than they are worth! If you are interested check out the
cloudynights.com website. And you are correct the best time to see crater detail is when the moon is not full.
Heres some good small refractors that you could use as daytime spotting scopes too:

keep at it!

It would look real nice in the dunes out front---do you think they have one of those 18 month no interest deals which is the way I buy all my camera equipment?:lol:

Thanks for the other link---it is something I think I could get into and this is a great place for using a telescope---probably not as good as where you are, but it is real easy to be away from all lights around here.

Oh, I did not use a tripod as I was not prepared---grabed by monopod and used it. Need to keep working on this, and need to be prepared.

The extender is another lens that fits between the telephoto lens and the camera. The one I have increased the distance about 40%, I think---that is what I read.

This is what the one I have looks like.

It only works with certain lens.

Thanks!

A monopod is a tripod with only one leg

Here is picture of one---

While you cannot walk away with the camera attached, it helps keep the camera and lens stable---

I just recently bought one and I think I will probably use it more than the tripod. I remember that when I was looking for a tripod, a couple of nomads around here suggested I would like a monopod---they were correct.
