SD to Asuncion

Left last Tues in the rain for our annual trip to Asuncion. We go through TJ, and hit the toll road. As usual, even with a green light if you're in a SUV or truck...you get pulled over - very quick though - Uneventful trip thru the toll stations and got into the light rain. About 8 miles of road work (massive project) south of Ensenada. Really no problem getting thru. Did see 2 accidents due to the rain, but no big deal. The road from Vizcaino to the turn off to Asuncion is in great shape - they've done a lot of repairs. From the turn off to Asuncion the road is great - (we raced a Pacifico delivery truck!~). Still not finished but no problem getting into town. For our third year we have Shari set us up and every thing is great - We stayed in Casa Pargo - ate at Adrian's Tidepool restaurant one night - great stuff. Juan, Shari's husband is a great local fisherman. He is always positive and happy. Was born on San Roque Island and it's great hearing his stories about the history of Asuncion. Ate at Ramona's a couple of times and was fantastic - Cooking our shore caught Corbina -
The trip home was also easy although light rain and some super heavy fog which made visibility almost zero in a couple of spots. Again a few accidents, and in the hills before Santo Tomas looked like someone went over the side. Into the road work south of Maneadero slowed us down a little, but no problem. Took the toll road to Popotola then Blvd 2000 to Tecate for a 30 minute wait to cross the border. The radio said 1 hour 45 minutes at TJ. Can't wait until the free road from Ensenada to Tecate is done but Blvd 2000 is a great way to go. There is some road work south of the military check point south of Catavina, but it's not a problem either. Great trip - Can't wait to go again! If you haven't eaten at Los Traileros just north of Ensenada about 4 miles before the toll station heading north you haven't had the best street tacos in Baja - Pretty big place and when you see buses and trucks stopping there you know you're in good company. Fishing was great 1st day - limited on Yellows - the next day was windy - we did a field trip to Punta Prieta and San Hipolito and watched the pangas come in during heavy surf.
Great trip and we'll be back!

Border wait times are announced on most San Diego radio stations during their traffic reports which are usually on the hour and half hour. We were listening to 1090 and 1360.
