Pavement comes to Asuncion

shari - 10-27-2010 at 09:33 AM

We did an emergency trip to the dentist in GN yesterday and am happy to report the first layer of pavement is down right into the village now...woo hooo. The final layer will be done within 2 weeks...supposedly. Boy that will be nice...the new road cuts off half an hour of drive time to GN...not to mention makes it way more enjoyable...no dust and spilling tecate on the washboard anymore!

That sure will be nice for all the locals...not to mention the northerners that want to come visit. That road to Asuncion and Tortugas was tough. Well, if want my wilderness, there is the ride north up the coast.

I'm peddling as fast as I can.....puff, puff, puff...

BAD ROADS bring GOOD PEOPLE

GOOD ROADS bring ALL KINDS OF PEOPLE!

(as Mama Espinoza is credited with saying after the Transpeninsular Highway arrived in El Rosario, in 1973.)

Be careful what you wish for!:wow:

rts551 - 10-27-2010 at 10:24 AM

How come you changed your quote (as credited to mama). It used to be "brings bad people".

I figured someone would mention the good road/bad road thing.

truth is a good road is very welcome by the locals who have spent most of their incomes on car repairs and who dread having to go "out" to appointments, bank etc. This means alot to remote villages.

ArvadaGeorge - 10-27-2010 at 10:27 AM

My wife and I will be in Baja January and February. She has never been to that part of Baja and I have only passed thru on a M/C. Do you have room for a RV? What is the weather like?
How long does the drive take from mex 1?

rts551 - 10-27-2010 at 10:32 AM

Its one thing to visit somewhere every once n a while... it's another to live there. Your perspective changes.

Not me who changed the quote... but that is the version of Mama's quote she is credited with the past many years. It may have originally been 'brings bad people' and that was changed to be more 'PC'? :?:

tiotomasbcs - 10-27-2010 at 11:03 AM

A la Bing, Boom, Bam!!:bounce: I have passed on a few visits the last few years because of poor condition of the road! Hour and a half? And the beer doesn't get foamed up or spilled?!! I'm happy for locals and visitors. With all the construction of hwys and roads many parts of Baja are changing after a long time as a one horse town. When is the celebration Party?! !n.:bounce::bounce: How about a Nomad Shindig?! Smiles Tio

are you refering to Elvis8s mama? if so, you better watch out about putting words in mama's mouth, he is gonna whip your ass!

Bajahowodd - 10-27-2010 at 01:26 PM

No question that having the entire length paved will bring more visitors to your little piece pf paradise. But as mentioned, most important, it is a godsend for the locals.

When does the new Ritz Carlton begin construction?

shari - 10-27-2010 at 01:27 PM

the Vizcaino to Asuncion turnoff part....the pot holes have been filled and it's better than ever...no problemas except it is narrow and ya gotta watch for some dunes on the sides in places and some bumpy parts but pretty darn fine.

Pompano - 10-27-2010 at 04:39 PM

shari..

is there wifi at the RV camp?

satellite tv?

I suppose a Hooter's in town would be asking too much....EH?

shari - 10-27-2010 at 04:43 PM

the only Hooters are mine & sirena's ....which are quite lovely these days if I do say so myself...of course there is WIFI but we draw the line at satellite tv...live theatre is best and there is always some of that around here!!!

shari - 12-22-2010 at 10:37 PM

well seeing as this thread has re-emerged...yesterday we drove on the brand spanking new pavement ALL the way from town...finally finished with signs, paint and everything...but go easy on the last 2 curves...there have already been accidents there as they are real sharp and people drive way to fast now.

Russ - 12-23-2010 at 07:16 AM

How long did it take you to Viscaino?

shari - 12-23-2010 at 08:04 AM

takes us an hour but we drive slow...I just cannot believe we dont have to drive on dirt!!!:o
