Tecate to Ensenada road construction

Any updates of the road condition; plan on going down on Friday, 11/12 and trying to decide which route, Tijuana or the preferred, through Tecate.

It was awful enough pulling a trailer in Sept that I won't go there in the spring or until it is finished in the future. My road standards are fairly low so I was skeptical but was too slow and bouncy. I have driven Baja stretches labeled awful which I thought were ok. They tore up about 16 miles of road all at once and God knows when it will all be finished. Jim

Guess that will be determined by the rains. It's promising to be a very wierd year.
Bet this is really hurting the hospitality industry in Guadalupe valley.

Maybe not so much. They did a great job of engineering the Southern half going up from Ensenada. Seem to recall seeing a speed limit posted of 110kph. Can't recall seeing a limit posted that high anywhere in Baja, including the new road between La Paz and Todos Santos. My guess is that the wineries get more visitors coming up from Ensenada anyway.

That said, if it is not an unusually wet winter, the road should be finished fairly soon. Then, my biggest concern is that given the ease and speed of the completed road, the gates at Tecate will be overwhelmed.

Well....if a place has only two roads feeding into it, one from the north and the other from the south and one of those roads is closed, it has to have a noticeable effect....I would think.

Most of the toll road between TJ and Ensenada is posted at 110 KPH. Hard to imagine they would have that much confidence in drivers on the new part of the Tecate Road, but who pays attention to those silly signs anyway.

On parts of the TJ/ENS toll road as well. It changes from 110 to 90 up on Mirador Hill to ENS.
It does pay to keep these limits in mind since the Feds are using radar now, although since the dangers of the cartels has changed the focus of the Highway Patrol from speed enforcement to survival, you don't see many of them out on solo patrol anymore.

That does remind me. Are there any Nomads who actually respect the posted speed limit, especially on Mex 1 South of El Rosario? If everyone did, I really don't think we'd see any more posts about driving to Cabo in two days!

Well....you have to keep up with traffic so as not to present a hazard. Even the Mexicans know that.
What they fail to realize is, the traffic they're trying to keep up with is all around them....not in Daytona.

Has anyone been down this road lately ? Would like to know how good or bad it is . Will be crossing on next thursday .

Don't care about posted speed limits, just the road .

I drove in last Monday (in the rain/mist) and it was awful! I would take the toll road over to Blvd 2000 then down along the coast or just cross in San Ysidro.

I don't say this lightly - I almost always cross in Tecate to avoid TJ and Rosarito, especially the last few years. :no:

I can't wait until they fix the Tecate - Ensendada road, but it looks like it will be a while.

Just drove it last night yeah thats right at night It was %$#@^%$ HELL I wouldnt drive it again day or night until they finish it and that will be awhile.

No way I'd try to drive to Cabo in two days. Three maybe at the least.
