Phil S - 10-31-2010 at 05:16 PM

Haven't seen anyone mention radar being used on Hwy 1. Anyone know from first hand experience????? Used to be used south of Guerro Negro, and also west of Santa Rosalia maybe 40 miles?????

Signs are up on the toll road between Rosarito and Ensenada. I have also seen RADAR used on HWY 1 in Ensenada at the Air Force base.....southbound lanes.

No beeps last winter/spring from the border to Mulege and back. I have picked up radar in the past around SQ and GN. Forgot to move it from car to truck before a Sept trip to BOLA so I drove the speed limit

Hola, when i had a flat on mex 1 south of ciudad constitucion and a federal cop stayed with me until the tire repair service arrived , i asked the federal cop if he had radar and he pointed to his eyes.

BIEN SALUD, DA RAT

I noticed zero radar presence from Ensenada to Mulege. But that really means nothing, as I was pretty much within the speed limit all the way.

I remember a bunch of years ago stories coming out of Baja Nomads of being stopped by Federalies out of Santa Rosalia. Taking of license plates & or drivers license until they pay their fines. Interesting for those that were heading north to Guerro Negro, having to turn around and go back to S.R. to pay their fine. Can remember the spot was a little town in the middle of no where. The car would sit on the west side of the town, shooting their radar towards the east. Thanks to the Nomads alerts, we never got into trouble here.

The only place I have seen it in use is on the toll road to the San Jose Del Cabo airport.

About 2-3 years ago, there was heavy radar usage south of Cuidad Constitucion to Santa Rita - have not seen it 2009-2010.

yep, seen it there several times this year. 1 federal car with the radar and 3 motorcycles to stop and ticket cars and trucks.

I mentioned in another thread, can't remember which, that the Hwy Patrol doesn't seem to be working solo on the open stretches of road up here, not since all the mayhem against police began.
I do recall an instance which Terry refers to above, but that was a rare occurance. They arn't out there with any regularity. In fact, their presence seems to be subdued.
That's the way if seems to be around here anyway.

I've yet to see a city cop with radar. That will be a sad day. They should be limited to the Tecate can on the end of a stick.

I've also seen this, but it always reminded me of a training session, given the excessive number of cycle cops lined up to give chase.....never as few as 3 when I passed by.

Christmas is coming up so we'll see how creative they can get.

We saw radar a couple of places between the border and Los Cabos on our trip two months ago. Radar is used extensively on Hwy 1/19 between the East Cape and Todos Santos. They pull all speeders over, regardless of where your license plate is from.

I've seen it used from stationary vehicles in Loreto/ Puerto Escondido. Very few gringos get popped, as we hit the brakes when we see a cop car at the side of the road.

They hide behind the open door of their PFP car and point the gun at the traffic.

I do recall a big police presence on Mex1 between La Paz and the 19 turnoff. But that was several years ago. Last few times, we've seen nada. And, as for the 19 from the split to Todos, maybe they ought to think about raising the speed limit. It's mostly limited access and seemingly engineered like US freeways. 90kph is really low, considering that the posted limit on the new stretch from Ensenada to Guadalupe Valley is 110.
