Thanksgiving Baja Sur

yellowklr - 10-31-2010 at 09:18 PM

Well I was planning on going to La Bocana BCS for Thanksgiving..............Since the weather is so cold this year and being the fishing is down my wife and I are considering doing some exploring instead. The area I would like to check is the Santa Rosalia-Mulege. Anyone have any suggestions?
If anyone here would like to get out fishing let me know....I have the capability of bringing plenty of fuel...I also have a 17 ft boat I could bring if necessary....My 25ft boat is kept in La Bocana BCS and I will not bring over at this time but could trade a trip from the Cortez.........Lets go fishing!
See ya in Baja

Thanksgiving dinner at Sorenidad:

My Gods man! Where you get a turkey that large?

Bay of L.A....... located 40 or so miles south east of Baja Highway One approximately 350 miles south of the U.S. border.

Do some research on this area....we find everything to do here. From fishing to exploring to snorkeling.

www.campdaggetts.com is a great camp that we stay at most of the time.

Explore Bahia Concepcion

tripledigitken - 11-1-2010 at 10:10 AM

If you go to Mulege, at least take a day trip and drive down the Bahia Concepcion.........................

Santispac

El Burro

El Requeson

South end of Bahia

Yeah, tripledigitken got the goods! Hell....I'll be there before yellowklr !

GREAT pictures u posted here. What campground u recommend?

castaway$ - 11-1-2010 at 11:41 AM

Dennis it is the south end of a pig going north-----on the BBQ of course. Mmmmmmmmm:biggrin:

bajabass - 11-1-2010 at 12:08 PM

Santispac is a great place to camp! A cantina, showers, banos, easy beach launching, close to Mulege for beer, gas, food, ect. All of Concepcion is beautiful!!! The Serinidad is nice, good food, and very close to the ramp. Just go Derek, pick a spot and enjoy!!!

tripledigitken - 11-1-2010 at 12:30 PM

I recommend Santipac as well.............why?

Anna's restaurant and bar is steps away and if you're lucky you might get a chance to lighten Pompano's deep pockets over a game of poker.:lol::lol:

That explains it. I swore off that part of the pig right after my first Prom.
I was a fast learner then.

here's another shot from the beach that even includes my elbow in the rearview mirror:lol:

Pescador - 11-1-2010 at 04:11 PM

Santtispac or any of Concepcion bay is great if you are gonna sit on your tush and look at the water all day, but if you want to get some fish come over to San Bruno and we will show you where the real bruisers are. The big yellows are just starting to show and we got a nice batch the other day all over 30 lbs, with some small ones mixed in for fun, but by Thanksgiving, the big boys should be kickin butt.
I can think of a couple of places where you can stay, but let me know when you are coming down and we will see what we can set up.

bajabass - 11-1-2010 at 05:06 PM

He is right!!! A room at the Serena, and on the fish before dawn!

yellowklr - 11-1-2010 at 05:49 PM

Is the Hotel Serena the same as Serinidad???

The Serinidad is a older, much historied place in Mulege. One of the original fly-in spots as early as the late 50's I believe. Great spot to stay. The Serena is a small, nice little place in San Bruno, about 600 yards from the little breakwater/ramp there. Literally minutes to Isla San Marcos. Talk to Pescador, he is very into the area! Have a great time friend!

yellowklr - 11-1-2010 at 08:30 PM

Thanks for everyones help.....We are still deciding on what to do...
I'd love to kill some of those bruiser Cortez Yellows!!!!

bajabass - 11-1-2010 at 08:42 PM

Take a heavy action 80lb stick! Those fish on the seamounts and reefs in that area DO NOT like to give up! I got rocked repeatedly on 50lb, while a distant cousin by marriage, hand-lined them on pre-stretched 100lb mono, with a hand board, grinning at me for half the day! He filled a 55 gallon plastic drum, I got two!  Those fish are big, strong and mean.

wsdunc - 11-2-2010 at 12:08 PM

I have always loved the Punta Chivato/Santa Inez area. Camping has been on again/off again, there is a Nomad Russ who lives in the area and could advise you. Good light tackle shore fishing from the lighthouse point at dawn and dusk, good snorkeling at the lighthouse point and the bay north of the campground. Good fishing at the near shore islands, although Pescador can probably put you on bigger fish at San Marcos island.
The road into Punta Chivato has traditionally been rough but passable.

Have you been as far as Loreto ? It is wonderful just to walk around and relax .... then you could take a day trip up to the mountains and visit the church up there - it is amazing and the name escapes me right now (maybe san javier ?? san joaquin ??). It is an oasis and just incredible .. a church that defies the height and truuble it must have been to haul all the building material up !!

yellowklr - 11-2-2010 at 08:20 PM

I've been to Loreto several times but I prefer let "Touristy" areas.........I'm leaning towards San Bruno it looks like my kind of place!!!!!!!!
I'm just trying to decide if I want to tow my boat or not......Being that I will want to do so much exploring the boat could be a hinderance.......Maybe I'll be able to hitch a ride!!!! Fuel of course covered by myself. Also I'd return the favor for a ride on my 25ft boat in La Bocana.
So far my plan is
Night 1 GN
Night 2 Serindad for the Pig Roast
Nights 3-5 San Bruno
Nights 6-8 La Bocana BCS

hmmm....it was 90 degrees here today...been in the high 80's all week...winter was in late september and early october and summer's here NOW!!! tons of YT too....so think carefully about sitting around on your tush on the SOC side...you KNOW reel men fish the pacific!!!!
thing just might pick up here by the time you get down???

BajaBlanca - 11-3-2010 at 04:54 PM

if you think you can push on further than GN for the first night, you might consider san ignacio - the garden rooms at Casa Leree, plus Juanita's old photographs and all her antiquities in the house/museum are a real treat ....

DENNIS - 11-5-2010 at 11:32 AM

Hi Linda.....Roger may be a bit busy right now. He's probably on his way to the Big City to buy co-pilot a Boxer.

Here's the Boxers picture:
