I could only get two of the three long liners in the shot.. They were to close to shore to get a good shot..

They are purse seiners. They are, of course, not actually fishing in the park, and there is no rule against them anchoring here and using port
facilities. The fact that ships of this size are in the gulf at all is a direct outcome of the Shark Norma 29 act that was signed into law by the
current president after having been vetoed earlier.mcfez - 11-2-2010 at 10:50 PM
No port fees to anchor in the bays? Wow...thats kinda cool.Russ - 11-3-2010 at 05:38 AM
Wow They look like oil riggs! Hopefully they don't head north! Take all the
fuel off and they'd make GREAT FISH HABITATbajabass - 11-3-2010 at 06:27 AM

Great idea Russ! About time the did some good, instead of
consistently, methodically raping the area! Drain the tanks and scuttle them!
one more shot

About 2 weeks ago some local commercial fishermen handlined some very large yellowfin tuna down near the south end of the Loreto Marine Park, one
weighed 180 pounds. Suddenly these 3 seiners show up. Note the helicopters on the cabin roofs.
The 3 seiners are capable of catching and transporting 3,032 tons of tuna among them - per trip. They are now permitted to fish in the Gulf of
California, very efficiently it would seem.
I really dont what to say,, I know the fishermans need to make a living,,
but on the other hand ,, the sea of cortez should be off limits to this type of fishingbajabass - 11-4-2010 at 06:09 PM
Do you know what country these ships are registered to? Oh, sure bet, the local small to medium production fisherman or co-op do not get a vote as to
whether or not seiners and trawlers from other countries get to rape the waters they are trying to make a living from. It is all about the money!!

If you want to do something about it, don't buy canned tuna.
