Tijuana Airport to San Diego Airport?

pacside - 11-5-2010 at 06:27 PM

Would appreciate any suggestions on the easiest (doesn't need to be least expensive) way to get from Tijuana airport to San Diego airport on a Monday?

I have given myself several hours so rushing isn't required just looking for least stressful way.

This is first time flying into Tijuana from La Paz.

Thanks,
pacside

Take a taxi to border, walk across, and hop trolley to downtown, get off at America Plaza station. Walk out to Broadway and take route 992 to airport. You can get $5 daypass at San Ysidro Trolley station, good for trolley and bus. Trolley is right there at pedestrian exit from TJ. Bus stop at America Plaza is 20 feet from trolley station. Route 992 goes to all three terminals at Lindbergh.

Or, you can get a taxi at Pedestrian exit in San Ysidro. Don't know cost...

Thanks Blane. So is it easy to catch a taxi outside of the TIJ airport? Is there a certain type or color? What is the normal fare for a taxi ride from TIJ airport to border? Do you say just drop me off at the border and they know to drop you off at the pedestrian bridge crossing? Is that the place Dave wouldn't walk across even at 1pm? :smug:;D

So once across take Trolley and transfer to 992...got it.

Thanks for the detailed instructions.

Volaris has a shuttle bus that will take you to the down town San Diego bus station where you could get a cab or take a bus to the airport. The bus goes through the bus lane at the border, you get off with your bags, go through the walk across station in a special line, go outside and around the corner and get back on the shuttle to the bus station. It probably won't be the same bus you got off of so don't leave anything on the bus when you walk across. It helps if you speak Spanish or make a friend that does....dt

pacside

last month on a saturday
the crossing time for walkers was 4 hours at about 11am
you cant trust the border if you are on a schedule

my buddy paid $5 to someone in a orange vest
for a van that drove him straight to the border in the bus lane
then he walked across like described above

it still took 2 hours
plan for a long wait at tj

ho did get a price for a taxi from the airport
to the border one way...it was $50
round trip $100
he rented a smart car and left it at the border parking lot

you could try these guys
they say they will pick up at tj airport and
shuddle to san diego airport
http://olympiccoach.biz/
we have not used them

Well since we're flying Volaris maybe this might be easiest solution. How would one find the shuttle upon exiting airport? I noticed on the volaris web site the shuttle runs every hour...does anyone know if that is true or not?

Based on what Bob and Susan said about their friend taking 4 hours to cross the pedestrian bridge I would think taking a bus through the bus lane is fastest way to get across?

When Volaris drops you off in San Diego is it easy to find a bus to the airport? Anyone know how much a cab ride would be from that stop to the airport and are they sitting there waiting for passengers or would one have to call a cab?

Thanks for everyones info...it has been quite helpful.

I can vouch that fdt offers great help. On my first bus trip from TJ, he picked me up on the US side, walked me across and through the details of paper work, dropped me off at the main bus station and sat with me until it was time for me to leave. What a kind heart!

Edit for typo

pac

you will be dropped at the santa fe train station. at the foot of broadway, maybe 2 miles from the airport terminals. cabs should be plentiful or use the link below for the bus schedule. you will be at the Santa Fe depot and destination gives you 2 or 3 options for airport.

Zforbes thanks for the feedback.
