FREE STUFF..

I have a couple old Hughes.Net satellite internet modems after updating my setup.

Model 6000's with stand..plus power cord, pc disc setup, etc.

I don't know if these are even usable anymore, but hate to just throw them in the garbage.

Also a couple DISH tv modems with remotes, cables, coax cable, etc.

Also a nice sat dish..but too small for my area. This one is just less than a meter..3 ft diameter.

If anyone can use them, just let me know.

Pompano, the dish tv modems might be something we can use here at the house ... can I get back to you on them once my husband Les gets home ?

Thanx. Blanca in La Bocana.

Hughes offered to replace old modems last fall. ours here was doing fine and trying to get the replacement mailed to somewhere in the states then down here seemed too much a hassle, so we didn't take them up on it. they said they would no longer provide support for the old ones...which we assumed meant technical support...however one week after the date given for that, the modem stopped working. we had to get a new one, commit for another 12 months.
coincidence or ???
anyway free is free and it's worth a try but if there was a deliberate cut off, the old modems might not work.

I called Hughes and had them ship the update modem to a friend's address in San Diego. It arrived with 5 days.

I don't know about today, but as of last Friday, my old 6000 modem worked fine. I now have the new 7000s hooked up, thanks to Mario from San Lucas ejido.

Blanca...no sweato, amiga..those will be hear for you if you want them.

And so it goes...DISH MODEMS ARE STILL AVAILABLE........

.........AND THE HUGHES.NET MODEL 6000 MODEM.

toneart - 11-10-2010 at 12:05 PM

Roger,
Do you notice a big difference in performance between the 6000 model and the upgrade? I may be able to use the 6000 if you haven't given it away by the time I get there.

How do you establish service with Hughes Net? I assume it would have to be done in the U.S.(?)

Bob and Susan - 11-10-2010 at 12:45 PM

you cannot start service anymore with a 6000 modem
huges will not let you

you would need to be using a 6000 modem now
and just use this one as a backup

modems are like lightbulbs...they just go out

new dish modems are HD units
but you could use this unit as a back up
by putting your existing old card inside

Tony...I noticed no big difference in speeds. For new service, though, you will have to go with the new 7000 from Hughes.

Maybe you should just stick with Mulege dialup..prodigy?

..like all the other city slickers. :saint:

You could use the dishes to make Solar Cookers ~

Just a thought...

all my friends in town have....

Tony, a guy posted on pony express a couple of days ago saying he was setting up a wireless system for everyone at the Oasis.
