captkw - 11-12-2010 at 04:11 PM

Iwas out of pesos by this time, and to make a long story short..ripped me off!!!:fire:

David K - 11-12-2010 at 04:13 PM

I use dollars all the time at Pemex... How were you ripped off? Details do help others to prevent it happening to them, and if it was done on purpose instead of an honest mistake, Nomads will avoid that station.

castaway$ - 11-12-2010 at 05:34 PM

Since you say southbound i assume that is the one on the west side of the road, is it the one when you really start to get into town? And yes, what are the details I'll be geaded that way soon.

pemex theif

captkw - 11-13-2010 at 08:29 AM

yes,its the western side and I dont type well, but when I told the jerk I had no pesos left things went to hell!! I had to go in the office 3 times with the master card..(did not have the phone cord hook up and then when I plugged it in, still got declined)and he demanded 35 u.s,....so finnaly I just paid it,,,before I dropped the ahole and go to jail!!! my car takes 23-24 dollars at all the other pemexs.....be advised I have put 34k miles on this car (volvo) since feb. Im a molbe mechanic (95 hr) and know when Im getting ripped>>>I also im on my 33rd winter down here!!! so its not like I am fool gringo...I speak spanish rather well and have driven to panama and back, just advising other folks heading south to know to stay away from the first 2 western pemexs in constatution...out:fire:

Howard - 11-13-2010 at 08:35 AM

How many peso's did the pump say?

capt. mike - 11-13-2010 at 09:03 AM

molbe mechanic (95 hr)
hahaha. i know when i am getting ripped too....:lol:

BooJumMan - 11-13-2010 at 10:00 AM

Dang, I wanna know where you get gas!! Don't most Volvo's have 15 gallon gas tank? That would mean at $25 per fill up, you're only paying $1.67 a gallon.

Anyways, $35 for a fill up doesn't seem high at all to me. I have a 15 gallon as well, and its usually more around $45-$55.

Wait a minute?
You gassed up with no money?
Demaded that the station take a mastercard?
Do you know there are fees involved with credit?
You were declined by mastercard?
You were going to assult the worker?
No pesos?
You wanted to pay dollars in mexico?
Who was in the wrong?

David K - 11-13-2010 at 10:52 AM

no kidding!???:wow:

Bajahowodd - 11-13-2010 at 02:13 PM

$35 for a full tank? I wish I could do that NOB.

captkw - 11-13-2010 at 04:09 PM

i GASED UP AND HAD DOLLARS ,HE WOULD ONLY GIVE 10 PESO TO THE DOLLAR AND WHILE i WAS THEIR A NOTHER TRUCK CAME IN ( canada) AND AFTER SEEING TO B.S. THE CANAIDIAN SAID TO ME...WISH YOU LUCK WITH THIS JERK AND LEFT FOR ANOTHER STATION.......AND TO CAPT MIKE i HAVE BEEN 95 A HR FOR 9 SEASONS WITHOUT RAISING MY RATES AND STAY BOOKED UP FOR 2 MONTHS IN AVANCED, MASTER BOAT AND YACHT TECH AND THE LAST BOAT i WORKED ON WAS A COAST GUARD AUX.VESSELL..OUT.

Bajahowodd - 11-13-2010 at 04:52 PM

So let me get this right. Someone who makes $95 per hour is having a conniption over having to deal with a 10-1 exchange rate for a tank of gas. Seems to me that he "fleeced" you for about $3. Maybe we ought to declare war on Mexico.

:lol::lol::lol:

dtbushpilot - 11-13-2010 at 04:59 PM

Well, I guess that settles it, I won't be buying gas with dollars any more.....oh, wait, I haven't bought gas with dollars in over 10 years.......never mind.....

Come to think of it, I've never bought gas in the states with pesos. I think next time I gas up in San Diego I'll give them a hand full of pesos and then get peeed off at them when they don't take them.....maybe I'll smack them if they pee me off......dt

tiotomasbcs - 11-13-2010 at 05:43 PM

Experienced, 30yr baja veteran? Don't get it,amigo. Love the sarcasm,Nomads!! You need pesos in Mexico or dollars will get you 10/1---old news. 3-5$$ difference when ina pinch? Be glad you're back on the road. whataya gonna do, kick his ass?!! Welcome to the "bote", the "can" Get over it! Tio

David K - 11-13-2010 at 06:46 PM

Wow... what is the official rate... 12 or 12.50 and you got stuck paying 10 to one... because you are using foreign money?

I don't think that is being ripped off, unles the posted rate is different. The owner has to covert your money to his, and banks are less inclined to take dollars lately. The U.S. is in the crapper, afterall.

What is 2 pesos less, 16 cents?

There are gas stations right here in California that range to over 25 cents a gallon difference... in the same town!

Just so you have a better time in Baja... ask or look at the posted exchange rate at the station BEFORE paying in dollars. If you only have dollars, and were out of gas... be happy you were not stuck there and could buy some! ;)

It's price gouging and you know it. If a service station puts up a sign saying three to one, does that make it OK??
No way. Drivers don't go into gas stations looking for bargains or clean rsetrooms. They most often go in because they need to buy gas. They have no choice.
The posted sign isn't the arbiter of right and wrong. It only reflects the fairness or greed with which the owner put it up.

bad gas guy

captkw - 11-14-2010 at 02:33 PM

YA KNOW,ooppps sorry about the caps again..Im in la paz with my grand ma that just got the word friday that she has appx 2or 3 months left on her ticket ..she sailed down her in 58 or 59 and stayed, name of the boat was NOMAD........I STARTED THIS thread to help other folks and have to defend myself,,,,,,,,, for letting myself get jacked at a pemex.....so with much adoo I :?:will shutup....,crew member spaceship earth capt"K" & lil tonya

Bajahowodd - 11-14-2010 at 02:40 PM

I may be wrong about this, but always thought that although virtually all Pemex stations are franchisee owned, that Pemex requires them to accept dollars, but allows them to set their own conversion rate. As David noted, this particular dealer was in no way encouraging the use of dollars.

As for the credit card reader, most businesses in Mexico that deal with small mark-up margins simply will not use credit facilities, inasmuch as the fee charged is very high.

captkw, Sometimes it's not what you say, but who you are. Looking for a fishing report in the future. Sorry to hear about your grandma.
