One day last year, I was stopped at the stop sign in front of the Church and the police were handing each driver a printed notice. It was in Spanish
but what I read was that depositing trash on the street and beaches would no longer be tolerated by the city. Those caught would pay a fine of one
days civic service---picking up trash in town or on the city beach. There are trash recepticles everywhere if you look for them. What we all need to
remember is that many of the little pueblos are just now emerging from the old ways and the local government is trying to make things better for all
its people (I know, you think I am muy tonto). Loreto has several bulldozers, by the way. We can all help by setting a good example. I was driving a
mexican family back to Loreto from Fontana when the father started to throw a small plastic wrapper out the window.....junior said "No Papa, es no
bueno--usa la bolsa para basura". The youngsters are being taught in school that they are responsible for their actions. You may be right about not
changing the ways of the older Mexicans, but Mexico is educating the young as they are its future.

From a few that know more than I, it was shared that the trash campaign in Loreto is related to requirements of the cruise ship that has made it a
stop. They made it clear that if they wanted cruise visitors they had to clean up a bit.
