Hwy 5 mini report

From Del Fines headed north, 10 miles of the "the old road", then 6 miles of semi-graded 25 mph road, that runs along side the pavement that is not open yet, and then pavement on in to town. There is almost no adventure left in that drive, it used to be that you could make it to Ceasar's in about 1/2 a day, fuel up on yummy tacos, then drive the pavement from hell that was worse than the dirt road! Now, Ceasar's is not only closed, the building is gone, and you can make it from there to town in nothing flat.
From Del Fines headed south, no change, except the nice little restaurante at Rancho Grande. good food, nice veranda, and you can get almost anything you need in the little store!
I must say, a little trip to baja puts some fresh air in your sails!

That is the first time I saw the word for dolphins in Spanish made into two words... Had me stumped at first as to where you were talking about! :lol:

"Del Fines" is 'Campo Delfines' on the auto club map...

Sigh. I'm checking this out this weekend after the Baja 1000 race. I miss the good ol' days. Southbound, 1993, about 10 Km south of Puertecitos, first flat tire. I wonder if I can find this spot this coming week; just for old times sake.

They "used to be" new. Actually, they were brand new just for this trip. That's what sucked. A puncture so soon. Just 200 miles from Pasadena n tires with only about 2,000 miles on them. I patched that one and re-inflated. I was petrified to use the spare on the roof and not have another. They were even shiny in Armor-All and I can prove it. Here was MY BEAST leaving home.

Either they are great tires or you get a sidewall failure with them (more than 2 ply sidewall tires) from my years of off roading and hearing other reports.

*Tires that I have had many flats with: BFG Rugged Trail TAs

*Tires that I have had a couple flats with: Pep Boys Futura Dakotas

*Tires I never had a flat with: Cooper Discoverer STT, Cooper Discoverer ATR, Toyo Open Country AT.

Why must you feel that you have to correct everyone? Why don't you just admit that you do everything you can to get more posts.

Part of what I do her Cortez Blue is provide facts and history that I am lucky to have to share.

It was interesting to see the campo refered to as Del Fines... It took me awhile to figure out she meant Delfines (Dolphins)... it was a fun thing, and I tried to relate that... I don't see that she was insulted.

As typical for me (since I statrted posting Baja history and correct place name spelling over 11 years ago), I gave the correct or historical name for the place... and never to be insulting or to put anyone down. I would think people come to a Baja Internet site to LEARN more about Baja.

I am sorry if someone is bothered by the facts or the truth, and I hope that anytime you see me providing the proper spelling of a Baja place it is to enlighten the viewer and to gain respect by the Mexican. I mean how many times would you see places spelled Shicago, Frezno, Atlantuh or Denber before offering to share the correct spelling of Chicago, Fresno, Atlanta or Denver? Would you allow the friend to keep looking dumb in the eyes of his hosts? I hope not.

While I think we can all figure out as English speakers what is meant by Puerticitos, Alphonsina's, Guerro Negro or Los Barilles... To a local, it is like a different word as in the examples above.

When you read something I post about a place in Baja... I hope you will know it is the correct information on that place and not a guess. I only wish I 'knew it all', as you say... then I would be able to go to the Baja 1000 and have fun supporting our son pitting today.

You are more interested in making sure you have the most posts and get to the highest level of BN Heavan. You remind me of the kid's in school who drove everyone nuts making sure that you answered all of the questions correctly.
Your posts come off rather annoying and picky, as I said, give it a break, everyone already knows that you are the King of Baja and soon the King of BN.

But I am sure that your ego will require that you continue to be the lexicon or should I say oracle of this site.

Some folks do it, while others only dream and talk about it.

Also, FYI, I enjoy the phots and facts about Baja, I am tired of the constent correction of anyone who misspells a word.
Being in the IT biz for 30 years, I trype faster then I can spell and know that the message is getting through.

I just gotta say, being from Montana.... I don't get to go to baja on the weekends, or occasionally, or live there. I only get to go down 1 or 2 times a year. (until retirement of course) anyway, I happen to like reading what David has to say. And many others of you as well. I don't particulary think David is a know-it-all, I think some people have the "fever" and can't stop talking and learning about Baja. I can't remember the name of the book that talks about the "Baja Malady"....but David's got it. that is not a bad thing, and if you don't like it. Don't read his posts. simple.

Thank you Lista, very nice... I do only want to share what I am so fortunate to have collected abnd saved most of my life.

Pretty sad that those who have grown up to be so selfish, that they cringe at the thought of anyone else who reads Baja Nomad might drive on a dirt road near their precious secret beach, the rare time when they are there, because of something little o'ol me posted here! :lol:

So, every chance to be mean, they can.. and used my 'correcting' you to do so. I was actually clarifying what you meant. I was ammused at your version of the campo. You actually spelled it right, just made it into two words... that would work in Spanish! LOL

If I can ever assist you with travel details, maps, a cold beer... let me know... Unlike Woody and Cortez Blue, I enjoy Nomads and am happy to have them in my camp, anytime!

It is difficult to have a battle of words with an unarmed person. I tried to be polite for many posts, by adding, "yes DavidK I know it is spelled wrong" and you didn't get it, and you still don't.

Some people get it and some people don't

I hope that you continue to broadcast your information and photos and maps of Baja, but hope you can learn to keep your pompas, petty corrections to yourself.

In the words of Sergeant Hulka: "Lighten Up Francis". While not an old timer, I have been going down to Nuevo Mazatlan since '72 and with kids in high school and a busy life, I don't get to go down as much. I happen to like Davids trips, pics and info. It helps fill the void. As far as his corrections, I do the same damn thing and it chaps my wife and kids. I very proudly call it "attention to detail"
