Walking to nearby beaches

Can you walk from Santispac to the beaches south ie El Burro on land vs the highway? Each time we stay at Santispac we walk South on the beach to the "lagoon" but we have not attempted to cross the little river to head further South. (The dogs love to swim in that lagoon!!) We're very fit so the distance wouldn't be a problem but I couldn't tell about the terrain. Thanks Ron

You can hike along the highway...hell, everyone else does! Just look out for bicycles!

I used to jog every morning from mi Coyote casa to Santispac and back....about 5 miles round trip.

I have NO idea why.

Pompano- you must have more energy than I. I was wondering more about staying closer to the beach than the highway. More of a scenic leisurely walk. Thanks Ron

Ron...it is possible, but not practical. Try it when you arrive..and you will see it is extremely rocky along certain portions of that shoreline.

It would be slow going at best.

However, it does have 2 nice hot springs along the way....

I swam to the other side just two weeks ago, with my fins i even got cold!

The ocean floor sure looks dead. It doesnt look like it did 11yrs ago when i

was there last :no:

I did manage to get a few callos and clams for a c-cktail

I jogged north on a road thats not used anymore its right along the edge of the ocean, has anyone else walked on that road?

How right you are...the Bay has almost became a morgue. When we first started snorkling and diving in Bahia de Concepcion back in '71 it was a natural marine aquarium..teeming with life. When you dove, the noise from all the shellfish, shrimp, fish, and whatevers was music to the ears. Creaking, croaking, grunts, squeals, booms..a cacaphony of sound..life.

Now?...you can call it, The Silence of The Dead & Gone. Not nearly as much fun snorkling/diving, for sure, but one must hope it will all come back. We all Just put a little work alongside that hope!

per your northbound jog from Santispac....that coastline trail is actually part of the old Camino Real that winds through the area. It was the 'Baja Road' before the pavement went in back in 72-73. We still used it often up until a dozen years ago..easy and fun way to get to Pta. Arena from Santispac beach. Lately, not so passable, since it has been ditched here and there. Thanks both to man and storms.

Good question. I'd like to know too. I just did a quick Google search looking for the answer but nothing came up immediately. I'll look some more. Commercial fishing I suppose.

Pompano-You couldn't have provided a better explanation. If a picture is worth a thousand words, sixteen pictures have to be worth at least sixteen thousand. It's really sad but unfortunately happening everywhere.

The major issue with most shore line is habit encroachment. I can be via commercial exploitation, pollution, or to many people using it. That bay was had all three. The commercial guys saw lots of fish in a barrel. The camping along there in the winter has been big scene they build the highway. Sewage treatment isn't the best. It's hard to watch.

It is indeed, LancairDriver. I am not by any means familiar with all the oceans, seas, and waters of the world, but I have seen a few over the decades...and have noted the demise of marine and related life everywhere in those areas... in just these last few years.

Sportsfishing is a huge plus...

.....commercial fishing is a huge minus...shoreline habitat destruction in a huge minus...pollution, etc, etc, etc..

....but the main problem is Doing Nothing.

We keep trying....and hoping to make a change.

Sure David..I know of many..here are but a few along that chosen path.

This one is on an island...so?

Some tubs are greatly improved over the years....
