Join Santa, Dec 24th 1pm @ Door of Faith Orphanage, to give presents to 113 kids!

cjesme - 11-18-2010 at 09:32 AM

A Christmas Bag for each child. There are 122 children that live at this orphanage in La Mision. We are collecting little toys, personal hygiene items and anything worth putting in a grocery bag size gift for the kids. There is a Christmas box at "SPLASH" K52 Baja Norte. Please help us fill this box so every child has a home made Christmas Bag. The bags are being made by Mrs. Greenlee's 8th grade class in Escondido, CA.

This is the first time we have done this and the help is greatly appreciated. If you would like to get involved please contact me by U2U

Great effort. Hope it gets a lot of attention.

cjesme - 11-18-2010 at 10:31 AM

Thanks Dennis. Just trying to do my part. The dollar store goes a long ways when trying to fill these bags. Even things from ones home would make nice gifts. Shampoo, hair gel, anything that is new or nearly new.

This orphanage in La Mision....what the name of it? I just like to confirm before donating...sorry.

I am no where near Escondido or mark52. Is there a POBox in Ca to donate too?

I admire folks like you that gives a damn about the kids in Mexico. 5 Stars to you!

We with Jessica of the San Felipe Nursery hit the Edido each Xmas with the truck full of toys (yes...99 cent store is GREAT). Last year we passed out 300 pieces of good stuff.

wilderone - 11-18-2010 at 10:45 AM

What a wonderful project for that class. Is there a mailing address I can send 122 of something?

The website is here for more information: http://www.dofo.org/

I've met DJ. He's been with DoF for 16 yrs with his wife.

I hope to take teams from my church this coming year to work in La Mision and with DoF.

cjesme - 11-18-2010 at 11:52 AM

Thank You for the responses. Please mail donations to:

Carla Jesme
P.O.Box 2024

Again, Thank You!

We'll do our best. Thanks for giving us a chance to help. I'll pay attention to the methods of payment and wll follow suit.
That it doesn't work, Ill go shopping and bring a bunch of stuff up there myself.
In fact...I'll do that anyway. I'll stay in touch.

sancho - 11-18-2010 at 05:18 PM

cjesme, Recently saw an episode on Amimal Planet TV
Channel. It was about a Pit Bull Gog Rescue Group.
It was filmed in La Mision. During the show they
visited an Orphanage in La MIsion, I assume that
is the place you mentioned. The children in the film
at the Orphanage, definately appered
to be in a positive environment
Keep up the good work

cjesme - 11-18-2010 at 07:32 PM

Sancho, yes the kids are in a very positive environment. DJ and Robin and all the house moms work very hard to make it a family. The kids actually go into the town of La Mision to help feed the poor people. They go to church and are driven to public schools. I have spent time with the kids and they ooze of love. I feel blessed that I found this place. It puts everything into perspective!

Nappo - 11-18-2010 at 10:05 PM

Years ago, we would take the "old road" to Ensenada and turn inland at La Mision. You know, go under that underpass where there used to be a squished VW there for years to remind you to watch the curve. There is a huge valley/flood plain, similar to the San Diego River in SD, and after turning off on a dirt road before heading up the hill, used to donate items to an orphanage a few miles out on the left (north) side of the valley. Is this the one everyone is talking about?

cjesme - 11-19-2010 at 07:51 AM

Yes, This is the orphanage after the bridge/river in La Mision. Coming from Esenada you would turn right onto the dirt road and go about 1.5miles. The big arch is the entrance. These kids are very well cared for. They just need a lot of love! Especially the toddlers and infants. The babies need you to play with them, hold them and nurture them!

You are a wonderful warm soul!! I can't wait to meet you, hopefully in Dec. to bring the gift bags to the kids! I wasn't sure what kind of response I would get for this fund raiser and I have been pleasantly surprised!!!
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! God Bless!!

Donation Challenge

mcfez - 11-19-2010 at 09:59 AM

This afternoon I am mailing these folks $20.00

Who here is going to make the same donation. Hell....it's the cost of a movie ticket or even a swing at a fast food joint. I'll wait for "Skyline" to come out on Netflex and send these folks the movie money.

I am sure they can use $5.00 donations to whatever one here can afford.

cjesme - 11-19-2010 at 10:16 AM

Thank You mcfez! Again, if you would like to go with me to deliver the gift bags, it will be a heart warming day! My time is wide open. Just let me know and a bunch of us can go!! :D;D;D;D;D

With my looks...the kids would think they'll bout to be mugged!
Thanks, but no. This is your stage.

cjesme - 11-19-2010 at 04:48 PM

Went to Waldo's Dollar store today, in Rosarito. Bought all kinds of goodies for the kids. This is so heart warming! Also picked up pictures of all the kids from the orphanage. Going to bring them to the 8th grade class that's making the Christmas Bags! They are sending pictures of them selves with the bags! What a great day!

I remember going to the Door of Faith Orphanage with my church group when I was in high school. The church has stopped the trips because they say Baja is too dangerous.

The church members still donate items.

What's the deadline to collect the items? Can they play VHS at the orphanage?

cjesme - 11-27-2010 at 10:44 AM

I am trying to get everything to me by Dec. 15th so that I can disperse the items evenly into each bag. The ages of each child will depend on what goes in their bags. I don't know about VHS but I can find out. I will email DJ at the orphanage to find out.

Thanks again for your interest.

Dennis, Thank you for bumping this for me. I've gotten myself spread quite thin. I am also helping with rescue horses. Just bought one and I am trying to get her healthy and fat. I'm a newbie at that too!

Unfortunately I haven't thought of doing this. I'm sure if you like , you can donate right to DJ at the orphanage. I am doing this on my own. I have been having people send me money and then, at the end I will take my receipts and donation totals to DJ. I am mailing out the donation receipts to everyone for tax deductions.

Oh, believe me, I was worried. I put all the socks and underwear in the bottom of two duffle bags with my clothes on top. Some little toy trucks were pushed under my seats with the wiffle balls and bats. I still have to bring down the 20 barbie dolls I found at the dollar store for $1.00 I've been getting great prices. The hardest ones to buy for are the 16-19 yr olds. Next trip I'll get more. It's funny because I am not a shopper and I usually get a bit stressed out when the stores are busy. So far so good. I haven't rammed my cart into any little old ladies yet, lol

Carla - check your U2U for the cell phone number to call to see when the bags were or will be delivered.

I think next year will be easier since we can plan earlier. What you are doing is really special and one day I hope to visit the orphanage in person.

cjesme - 12-6-2010 at 07:43 AM

There is another Orphanage further out into the Guadalupe Valley that I want to go visit. This orphanage, I am told, needs much help. I plan on going there to see for myself, if I can find it.

I definitely will start earlier next year!!

check your u2u..;D

freygirl - 12-6-2010 at 10:30 AM

I am driving down from Calgary, Alberta to the Casa de Paz orphanage with stockings for the kids. It is not too far from the Door of Faith and I was wondering if this is the one you are speaking of. It is in the town/village of porvenir. My daughter did a trip with her pysch proff and 24 others in summer and is going back in summer of 2011.

cjesme - 12-6-2010 at 02:29 PM

It may be, the one I was told about is around 40 mile from La Mision, down in the valley. I have no other details as of yet. Great thing you are doing! The kids are always such good kids and happy! Very well rounded.

Happy Holidays!
