We're planing a kayak/road trip to Baja next jan-febuary.We'll be driving from the east coast of US.Is it better to drive trough Mexicali or Tecate to
head towards Mulege?We've been told that Mexicali might be more dangerous to go through. Is it a bad idea to cross on the 31 december?Thanks for your

Mexicali is just fine to go thru. For the unseasoned Baja traveler....go thru during daylight hours. You are on a main road going thru towards San
Felipe ...lots of help if in need. Dont speed BTW....We live in San Felipe and go thru Mexicali a lot.....never a problem.
Dec 31 is New Years. I myself dont travel on Holidays....so I cant tell you about entering Mexico on that day. Leaving would be a bit--h.

Mexicali isn't "dangerous" as far as crossing the border. If you're headed to Mulege (not San Felipe, Gonzaga Bay), and are thinking about the Mex. 2
traverse, that would be no problem - the Tecate road construction should be finished and will be very nice. Or were you thinking of a Mex. 3 traverse
into Ensenada? Or instead of going all the way to Tecate could turn left at La Rumarosa and go through National Parque pine forest, although could be
some snow in Dec./Jan. Or, as Mcfez implied, you want to go south at Mexicali and come out on Mex. 1 north of Laguna Chapala? Crossing in Mexicali
makes sense for you, but you have some choices after that. What kind of vehicle are you taking? Might as well go to Guadalupe hot springs too if

Paved road
San Felipe. Good rest stop for overnight. Valley of Giants cactus
Paved road
Puertecitos. Natural Hot springs in the ocean. Decent kayaking.
Dirt of 20 miles. Tough. But we all drive it.
Gonzada Bay. Excellent kayaking. Go past Snoopy Mountain
Dirt road. Rock. Aint bad. 30 miles to highway 1. Go N on I. Paved.
Bahia de Los Angeles. Wow factor kayaking.
DavidK has excellent maps that I am sure he'll post here 4 u.
The others will add or subtract my advise. But it's all great advise to come.
